YOUNG CHRONICLE THE YOUNG CHRONICLE The International Day of Happiness The International Day of Happiness is celebrated throughout the world on the 20th of March. It was established by the United Nations General Assembly on 28 June 2012. The General Assembly recognised that the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal. So, here is a short poem dedicated to the pursuit of happiness! HAPPINESS Learn to find happiness From all things, big and small Every moment and person Find happiness in all Everything happens for a reason, Flowers blooming to a change in season Darkness will always be followed by light Find happiness in moments, major or slight Seek pleasure whether alone or in a crowd There is a silver lining in every cloud! Spread smiles and laughter, Joy and cheer Because happiness stays Every day, month and year! When Is St. Patrick's Day? St. Patrick's Day is celebrated each year on March 17th. St. Patrick's Day is an Irish holiday celebrated all around the world to honour Saint Patrick, of Ireland. This day marks the recorded day of Saint Patrick's death. Who was Saint Patrick? Saint Patrick was born in wales around 390 AD. At the age of sixteen, he was kidnapped from the roman British Isles by pirates, and sold into slavery in Ireland. Saint Patrick worked as a shepherd and became very religious. He became a Christian and came to be known as Patrick. After six years of slavery he escaped home to Britain. While back in his homeland, Patrick decided to become a priest. Patrick wanted to return to Ireland after dreaming that the voices of the Irish people were calling him to convert them to Christianity. After studying and preparing for several years, Patrick travelled back to Ireland to spread Christianity. He used the clover (the leaf above) to represent three separate parts (3 leaves of the clover) of the same being. The first leaf was god the father, second leaf the son and the third leaf the holy-spirit.
