YOUNG CHRONICLE The Bravehearts Rambo and Pranks are really inspired by the 24 children who have won the bravery award. The more they read about them, the more they wait for the opportunity to be brave. Their mother obviously doesn’t want that they come across a situation that needs them to be brave, because she is scared about their well being, but she has taught them both that if such a situation arises, they should be strong and brave. One such child is Korungama Kumar. He is just 7.5 years old, and saved his 4 year old sister when their house caught fire. He had watched Tom, from Tom and Jerry, douse a fire using a blanket. He then learnt that ELECTRICAL FIRES ARE NEVER DOUSED WITH WATER, AND ARE DOUSED USING BLANKETS. He used the same technique when there was a shot circuit in their house and the fire rose. Though he did sustain some burns, his sister was unharmed. Another brave girl is 16 year old, Akanksha Gaute, who saved her father from four attackers. Being a Black Belt, she single handedly fought them all till the local police arrived. While three of the attackers ran away, Gaute held onto one and handed him over to the cops. Within a few days, the others were nabbed too. Satyendra Lokhna (Age 16) & Vishwendra Lokhna (Age 17), are two others receiving the award. They had put their own lives in danger, to save the lives of others. They had dived into a 40 feet drain, to save the occupants of a Bolero that had fallen into it. They had no idea how many people were in the car, and whether they were still alove or not, but they had to try and help. They managed to save 3 out of 4 people. They feel that risking their lives to save the three, was definitely worth it. They say that just the feeling of knowing that we didn't just walk away or just watch people die, is amazing. These acts of bravery show that we must learn to treat everyone like family. Today someone else is in trouble; tomorrow we may be in their position. What if no one helps us then? There are 20 other brave children who will receive the awards this Republic Day. Of these 20, 4 children have lost their lives in an act of bravery. Let’s pray that Kapil, Saudhita Barman, Lovely Verma, Aditya Gopal and C Lalduhawma’s souls rest in peace. The one thing that is important to learn from all of these children is that one needs to be selfless and brave in such situations. Be it family whi
