THE YOUNG CHRONICLE
Finding Mars!
Rohan (a.k.a Rambo) and Priyanka
(a.k.a Pranks), the Acha Bacha
twins, were very excited that the
Mangalyaan had joined the mars
orbit. It sounded so cool! But they
didn’t quite know what all of this
meant. What is the Mangalyaan,
and where is Mars, they wondered.
When they asked Mom and Dad, they were told to
open their encyclopaedias and search for the Solar
System.
We are so confused.
Now, what is the
Solar System?
We have to get to the
bottom of this.
The ‘Finding Mars Mission’
Rambo and Pranks found that Mars was a
neighbouring planet. It is Red in colour and just like
Earth, it goes round and round the sun.
If you see the picture above, Mars is
the fourth planet from the sun. Pranks
and Rambo had found Mars, and they
were very excited.
What’s Mangalyaan? Why is everyone
talking about it?
Wow! Pranks and Rambo were impressed at Mars.
They had a lot of questions. Where there people on
Mars? Did they look like us? Were there any trees?
Seas and Oceans?
Their Mumma told them that Mars didn’t have any
Trees, Seas and Oceans. But there were a lot of
stories about Aliens living on Mars. Rambo was very
excited at hearing this.
!
He instantly pulled out his
Art book and started
drawing an Alien. Here
are some images he
sketched.
What would a Martian look like?
Breaking Rambo’s imagination, Papa then told
Rambo and Pranks that Mangalyaan had been sent
by India, to find out whether Mars ever had water or
not. The scientists would find this out by carefully
studying the surface of the planet.
Pranks agitatedly
asked, “What is
Mangalyaan? Is it
like a spaceship or
a rocket?” Papa
then explained that
it is a satellite. A satellite is an object that moves
round and round a planet. Mangalyaan has been
created by scientists, to click close pictures of mars.
They plan to study the images and find out if there
was water and life on mars before.
Why is the satellite to Mars Called
Mangalyaan?
The satellite to Mars is called Mangalyaan because
Mangal (in Hindi) = Mars
Yaan (in Hindi) = Vehicle
