Jawaharlal Nehru turned into a wonderful leader and
was made the Prime Minister as soon as India won its
freedom.
Nehru's contribution to Society
Nehruji was the first Prime Minister of the nation,
and served the country for 17 years. He actually
built India.
The birth of Chacha Nehru
Chacha Nehru was very fond of children. He often
compared children to Roses, saying that ‘children
were like the buds in a garden’. He felt that children
should be carefully and lovingly brought up, as they
were the future of the nation and the citizens of
tomorrow. He believed that children are the real
strength of a country and the very foundation of
society.

Who was Chacha Nehru and Why is
Children’s Day Celebrated on His
Birthday?
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, was
India’s first Prime Minister. He
was born on November 14th, a
Hundred and Twenty Five years
ago

Now that was quite
a while back! He
sounds very old!

Well let’s start from the beginning. Jawaharlal
Nehru was born, in Allahabad. He was the son of
Swaroop Rani and Motilal Nehru, a very well known
lawyer. Jawahar was a brilliant and kind child, who
was loved by everyone.
When Jawaharlal Nehru grew up, he was sent to
England to study. When Jawahar returned, he
wanted to serve the nation. So he joined the
Congress and Gandhiji, in fighting for the freedom of

Most importantly, Chacha Nehru did not discriminate
between boys and girls. He believed in giving equal
opportunities to girls and boys. In fact, his own
daughter, Indira Gandhi, grew up to be the Third
Prime Minister of India.
Quite naturally, he was loved by all children. That is
why children fondly gave him the name of 'Chacha
Nehru'.
As a tribute to this great man and his genuine love
for children, his birthday is celebrated all over India
as 'UNIVERSAL CHILDREN'S DAY' across the country.
