YOUNG CHRONICLE
Solar Impulse 2’s India Visit
Solar Impulse 2 or SI2 is a plane which uses Sun’s energy to fly. How is that possible? How can the sun make a
plane fly?
SI2 has more than 17,000 solar cells. Solar cells capture the sun’s energy and convert into a form that the
plane can use. Since there are so many cells, they capture a lot of energy and store it. So the flight can fly at
night too. Solar Impulse 2 or SI2 landed in Ahmedabad on March 12th, and then took off to reach Varanasi on
18th March. SI2 hopes to promote Green Energy as it attempts to travel around the world without using Petrol
or Diesel. Sun’s energy cannot pollute the air and dirty the environment, and so it is called Green Energy.
The flight took off from UAE and with Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg, the two pilots and Founders,
who will fly around the world in 5 months, with no fuel. The plane will run on solar energy, completely.
India in the Semis
After the victory against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh last week, India is now in the semi-finals of the world cup,
and will have to play against Australia on 26th March.
