Why is the Republic Day Celebrated Republic Day is celebrated as; it was 26th January when the Constitution of India came into action. Rambo and Pranks were totally puzzled because they had no clue what the constitution is. That’s when their Mumma told them that the constitution is a long document that contains laws basis which the citizens and the government should follow. In short, it is like a rulebook. The entire country has to follow this rulebook to function properly. When India became independent in 1947, it did not have a rulebook of its own, to function smoothly. There were no proper laws bases which the criminals could be punished. So, it was decided that the constitution be drafted. Work on the constitution started on 29 August 1947 and it was brought into effect on 26th January, 1950. We celebrate this day as Republic day.
