MELGES REPORT
MELGES RPAYC ONE DESIGN MID-WINTER SERIES
The regatta included a small but competitive fleet of Melges boats including John Newman Penultimate Challenge travelling from Melbourne, Dave Young’ s Lake Macquarie team on his new boat Kraken, Andy Wharton AccrewedInterest and Harley Walters + GST.
The winter weather provided light conditions and tricky shifts. Differences in the results were determined by downwind tactics. The Victorians’ Penultimate Challenge raced consistently well with their results including two firsts and two second places, Andy Wharton’ s AccrewedInterest also picking up two first places by the end of day one.
Wharton is in pre-season preparation purchasing new sails and recently upgrading his boat. Melges Australia class stalwart and International Corinthian Champion Kevin Nixon shared his knowledge on board Accrewedinterest on day one and Al Pratt is filling his shoes on day two.
Melges 20 Big Booty skippered by Matt Crawford also mixed it up in the fleet. Looking forward to seeing all the Melges classes at the Melges East Coast Championships RPAYC later in the year.
