ETCHELLS REPORT
WHISPER AND ODYSSEY SAILED WELL IN A FUN REGATTA
The Milson Silver Goblets regatta held on Sydney Harbour in January 2016 attracted several RPAYC members. It looked like Top 40 had won the regatta, until the results of a protest didn’ t go their way. Whisper and Odyssey also sailed well in a fun regatta that includes races several evenings, and a miniregatta on the Saturday.
Top 40, Whisper and Odyssey also sailed at the Australasian mid-winter championships held off Mooloolaba in June 2016. Congratulations to the Top 40 team( Peter Merrington, Geoff Bonouvrie and Ian McKillop) who placed third. Conditions ranged from extremely light air on the first two days, to 25 + knots on the last day.“ Moo” as the regulars affectionately call this regatta, is one of the most enjoyable regattas on the racing calendar as it combines seriously competitive racing off the Mooloolaba coast, with a very friendly, supportive, fun social atmosphere.
And a special thank you to David Ritchard who has volunteered at many of these regattas, and who is leading preparations for the upcoming NSW State and National Championships. Thank you also to many other volunteers and staff who are already working to ensure that these upcoming championships will be highly successful.
RPAYC is also well represented on the International Etchells Class Association of Australia( IECAA) by David Ritchard and Jill Connell.
At club level, the RPAYC club racing calendar provided lots of opportunity and challenge for Etchells sailors – a summary of the results is below.

There’ s a very exciting season ahead for Etchells sailing! So join in the fun by sailing or by volunteering at the Etchells NSW State Championship and the Etchells National Championship being hosted by RPAYC during the 2016 / 17 season.
