GWEN SLADE
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THOSE WHO COMPETED
CLUB YACHTING
Punchy, shifty southerly breezes and patchy rain saw seven Etchells compete on Saturday 23 April in three windward / leeward sprint races for the Gwen Slade Ladies Etchells trophy.
The Gwen Slade regatta is a one design, Etchells regatta with women at the helm of each boat. The regatta started in 1981 by Russell Slade in honour of his wife Gwen, and to encourage women sailors.
This year, Annie Taylor and her team, Peter Gray( owner), Trevor Hannah, Jason Antill sailing in Arlotta, sailed with precision in the challenging conditions to win two out of the three races to take out the 2016 Gwen Slade Regatta.
The first win of the three races went to Lauren Crossman, sailing in her 3rd event, Lauren along with father, Warwick, Paul Slade and Hendrik Visser sailing in Seawings had a great first race however the team didn’ t get the win in the last two races but performed strongly enough to take 2nd place overall.
3rd place went to Sarah Parker and her Youth Development team of James Farquharson, Evelyn Foster and Ruby Scholten.
The conditions were very tough to navigate through Pittwater but on a positive note the competitors almost had Pittwater to themselves. Congratulations to all those who competed and a big thanks to all the Race Officials. For more photos visit the Club’ s Facebook page.
