Tomas and Jan from Johannes Kepler Grammar School, Prague, began their adventure at Winchester College on the 7 th January and grew into the school over the course of a term. Language barriers were no problem at all as both exchanges spoke English perfectly and seemed to easily cope with all their lessons. Outside lessons, they have taken advantage of all the opportunities of the school. Tomas stayed at Toye’s and Jan in College. Both were regulars at the squash and tennis courts whilst Tomas even took part in the Toye’s house play, appearing as a British Airman. They managed to pack their stay with trips to Cambridge, London, Nottingham, Southampton and even Leicester. Tomas joined the New Views Society and went to the National Theatre to watch Amadeus, whilst Jan attended Much Ado About Nothing at the Haymarket Theatre. Both were involved in Bobber Pot for their respective houses. With so much packed into such a short term they certainly had a busy and enlightening stay giving them a real taste of English culture whilst, in return, teaching us about a few of their traditions in the Czech Republic. ║THE REGISTER SOCIETIES African Dr Adekoyejo Odutola The Health of Nations: the Healthcare Technology Gulf between Africa and the Developed World Cardinal Beaufort Lecture Professor Francis Campbell Classical Mr James Renshaw A Journey with Herodotus: In Company with the Father of History Empson Dr William Poole Literature and Science in the Restoration: Milton and Hooke, telescopes and microscopes French Film: Manon des Sources Film: Grand Central Film: Jules et Jim Friends Mr Peter Krakenberger Friends Illuminated Mr Tristan de Vere Cole Augustus John Gaitskell Mr Kwasi Kwarteng MP Imperialism Geography Professor Tim Hall Urban Futures: Challenges and Responses Hispanic Dr Mariama Ifode Poeta en Nueva York: reawakening the American Dream History Dr Edgar Feuchtwanger Britain & Empire in the Victorian Age Kenneth Clark Roman Baroque Mathma Dr Vicky Neale Medical Professor Daniel Hochhauser Oncology Dr Benoy Nalin Shah MD MRCP Life as a Cardiologist MENA Professor Ali Ansari Iran in the 21st Century NHS Society Mr Nigel Marven Encounters with Scaly and Feathery Dinosaurs Oriental Mr Andrew Sparkes Nepal jammed between India and China Ramsey Mr Martin Cox Government Schools & Private Schools: The Case for Dismantling England’s Two-Tier Education System Mr Edward Lucas The New Cold War and How to Win It Mr Yaron Brook The Morality of Capitalism Science Dr Ken Laji From Diagnosis to Treatment – How Medicine Works Second Master’s Talk Mr Chris Lubbe Truth and Reconciliation in South Africa Slavonic Cdr John Drummond RN (ret’d) To Russia with Love Professor Christopher Pelling Wykehamists and Others: the Oxford Regius Professorship of Greek 16
