Rowing Junior Inter-Regionals J14 Quad came 3rd in their heat, which was a good performance as it was their first regatta race. J15s rowed in an 8+ in the J16 8+ event. They finished 4th in the final, which considering they were racing for the first time in an 8+, in an event for older boys, is a strong performance. Bedford Amateur Regatta 1st 8+ lost to eventual winners Bedford School in the 1st round. The 1st 8+ was missing 3 top years, so good racing experience for the younger members. J15 8+ lost to Shiplake College J15 4+ lost in the Finals to Norwich School J14 4x+ (coxed quad) lost to Hampton School. Winchester had 2 athletes competing at the Munich International Regatta under the GB banner: Luke Robinson and Tobias Schröder. Tobias Schröder raced in 2 events: the 4- (coxless 4) and the 8+. The 4- was comprised of the top 4 rowers from GB. They won silver behind Germany. Tobias later won gold in the Top 8+ for GB ahead of Germany. Luke Robinson raced in 3 events: The 4- (coxless 4), the 8+, and the 2- (pair). He finished 4th in the 4- behind the 1st GB boat and 2 German boats, achieving gold in the 8+ ahead of Germany and the Czech Republic, and won his race in the pair ahead of Czech Republic. Sailing The sailing team has had an extremely successful term, winning all individual matches (against Sherborne, Canford, Bryanston and Wellington), and in the area events (with some 20 competitors), coming 1st in the Southerns, 3rd in the Hoad Shield and 1st in the Thames Valley. Miles Jones (A) has led the team brilliantly. Tennis The 1st VI at Winchester College have had a stellar season, defeating the likes of Radley, Wellington, Bradfield, Bryanston, Magdalen College and St Edward’s. There were also some tough losses against Abingdon, Charterhouse and Eton. Throughout the season Krishna Amin (Coll) and Dylan Thompson (A) have played a key role in the team along with the Korossy twins, Thomas (I) and James (F). Three second years, Jean Mauratille (C), Finbar Tellwright (I) and Archie Stokoe (I), have all proven themselves to be worthy first team players, having performed to a high standard whenever needed. Due to injury Alex Titherington (E), the talented and flamboyant fourth year, has been unable to attend all matches but nonetheless played a large role at the start of the season. Will Henman (B) has also made some appearances in the first team, and will be a good competitor in the years to come. ║HOME & AWAY Omar Lingemann (A) & Luke Williams (B) At the beginning of Cloister Time, four students from the St Petersburg Classical Gymnasium (School No.610) came to Winchester College for a week to live and study amongst us. They stayed at Burge’s, but attended lessons and meals with us here. As a result, they managed to integrate very successfully, and enjoyed a broad, albeit short insight into the Winchester experience. Apart from studying here, they took day trips to London and to Salisbury to get a different flavour of England. For all participants it was their first visit to the UK. Two English teachers from their school, Olga and Olga, also attended lessons and meals and even managed to help one fortunate student through some arduous Russian poetry! In Short Half, four of our own pupils will go over to St Petersburg to 9
