Don’ t Settle for Similar, Choose the Superior

Karl Hodgson, Managing Director of Adande Refrigeration, on why imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and why operators should always choose the original.
There’ s a moment most kitchen operators will recognise. You’ re specifying a new build or reviewing your current setup, and a sales rep slides a brochure across the table featuring a refrigerated drawer unit that looks, at first glance, remarkably familiar. Same concept. Similar shape. Keener price point. And the obvious question follows: Is there really that much difference?
As Managing Director of Adande, I’ ll take that question as a compliment. The fact that so many manufacturers have looked at what we’ ve built and set about producing their own version tells you everything about the value of the concept we pioneered. But here’ s what that brochure won’ t tell you: imitation and innovation are not the same thing and in a commercial kitchen under real pressure, that distinction matters enormously.
Adande didn’ t simply introduce insulated refrigerated drawer technology to the professional kitchen. We patented it. Every competitor in this space has designed around our design, producing units that approximate the concept but cannot replicate the engineering. The result is a drawer that looks similar on paper but performs very differently in service.
The difference lies in how the cold is held. Many units rely on fans continuously circulating cold air. Every time a drawer opens, that air escapes and the unit works harder to recover, driving up energy consumption and creating the temperature fluctuations that quietly damage ingredient quality.
Adande drawers work differently. Cold air cascades gently around the food rather than being blown across it. Because the drawer itself is insulated, significantly less cold is lost on each opening, delivering the kind of temperature stability our competitors cannot match.
Operators feel that difference every day. As Shadi at Claro, who runs A + energy-rated Adande drawers, puts it:‘ The temperature is always stable, which means the unit isn’ t working harder than it needs to. Fluctuations cost energy and with Adande, fluctuations simply don’ t happen’.
Look closely at any Adande unit and the thought behind every detail becomes clear: runners that don’ t ice up, tested to 500,000 openings; magnetic heated seals; internally housed condensers protected from kitchen fats. Add a 5-year UK warranty( more than double the industry standard), and the return on investment case becomes obvious, quickly.
The market for refrigerated drawers has never been more crowded. We welcome the competition. But when performance and durability truly matter, the differences are plain. You’ ve seen the alternatives. Choose the original.
