Shaping Contemporary Restaurant Experiences – Cántaro Eatery & Bar, Beckenham

On Beckenham High Street, where competition for attention is fierce, Cántaro Eatery & Bar has emerged as a confident new dining destination. Transforming a former sushi restaurant into a contemporary Mexican eatery, this refurb project called for an interior that could balance warmth, intimacy and flexibility, while transitioning seamlessly from daytime dining to vibrant evening service.
London-based designer Delphine Bouvet was appointed to shape the vision, drawing inspiration from rural Mexico to create a sense of escapism through layered neutrals, tactile materials and subtle ethnic accents. To translate this concept into a fully functioning hospitality environment under a tight time line Contract Furniture Group was brought on board as a collaborative partner.
Working closely with the designer from the outset, Contract Furniture Group supported the specification of loose and fixed furniture that would enhance the narrative while meeting the practical demands of a high-traffic restaurant. Advisory input on proportions, layouts, durability and lead times ensured that every piece contributed both aesthetically and operationally. Natural materials were prioritised to allow the vibrant food offering to shine, with furniture acting as a calm, textural backdrop.
A complete loose furniture package was delivered to meet the demanding opening schedule. This included the popular Benet Side Chair, finished in a light white ash stain with cane backrests and ivory faux leather seats. Complementing the seating, Contract Furniture Group manufactured bespoke table tops in its UK workshop, pairing Casella Oak laminate surfaces with Profile table bases held in stock to ensure speed and consistency. A variety of table shapes and sizes supported different dining formats, from intimate covers to group gatherings and private dining.
Bespoke fixed seating further maximised capacity without compromising flow. Manufactured by Contract Furniture Group and upholstered using ILIV’ s Seattle boucle fabric, the seating combined visual depth with essential performance benefits, including stain resistance and antibacterial properties.
The completed interior at Cántaro is a clear expression of design intent. By combining manufacturing capability, upholstery expertise and project management under one roof, Contract Furniture Group helped bring a distinctive, designled restaurant to life, on time and with confidence. The result is a warm, contemporary space that feels considered, authentic and perfectly placed as a standout on the high street.
