Comment from Alan Whiteley of Iconic Spa brand Champneys

“ We have invested in the biomass heating system at Champneys Forest Mere as it means we’ re meeting the energy needs of the resort but also sticking to our goals on sustainability. In essence, Champneys is about offering our guests a fantastic and relaxing experience which is also good for our planet.”
The switch to introduce biomass heating at Champneys Forest Mere could save 641 tonnes of carbon savings per year and reduce their heating expenditure by 20 per cent according to AMP. The installation of biomass heating technology is example of how hospitality businesses such as Champneys are innovating to meet the demands of both eco-conscious guests while reaching their sustainability goals.
Iconic spa brand Champneys is among the‘ pioneers’ in a movement adopting more sustainable practices by leading the charge in integrating environmentally-friendly solutions according to the company’ s CEO.
The renowned wellness business has invested in reducing its environmental impact by installing state-of-the-art biomass heating system technology at Champneys Forest Mere.
The move also highlights how smart building practices- such as using renewable energy sources- can directly reduce operating costs and benefit the environment. For Champneys, however, Mr Whiteley says the integration of the biomass heating at Forest Mere goes hand in hand with the brand’ s wellness principles.
“ We’ re always striving to find that sweet spot between luxury and sustainability and we believe we’ ve achieved that at Champneys Forest Mere,” said Mr. Whiteley.“ As the hospitality industry evolves, it’ s clear that sustainable design and technology will continue play a bigger and bigger role in shaping its future.”
The renewable energy solution at the retreat in Liphook in Hampshire is provided by AMP Clean Energy which has‘ significantly improved’ the efficiency of the retreat’ s heating operations while reducing its reliance on fossil fuels.
The biomass system works by using wood pellets to generate energy compared to using traditional heating system which use natural gas or oil, therefore, making it a much cleaner alternative.
Alan Whiteley, CEO at Champneys, insists the move was part of the organisation’ s commitment to sustainability across its spa resorts. He said:“ Our main aim at Champneys is to create a space where our guests can truly relax and enjoy a wonderful to stay. We also want to lead the way when it comes to introducing sustainable practices which make a difference to the environment.
