About BCA
Bangladesh Caterers Association UK ( BCA ) is the umbrella organization of approximately 12,000 British-Curry restaurants across the UK . BCA was established in 1960 to represent the Catering Industry run by the ethnic Bangladeshis . At present , the industry employs more than 100,000 people , with an estimated yearly turnover of £ 4.2 billion . BCA organises various activities to promote all aspects of Bangladeshi culture with priority on Bangladeshi cuisine in Great Britain as well as in Europe . Over the years BCA has established itself as the herald of Asian Community by facilitating , advocating and promoting the interests of the curry industry . With the passage of time BCA has grown its capacity to be able to generate huge business potentials for all suppliers , be it small cash & Carry or a giant trade body like Cobra , Kingfisher or Coca-cola .

Oli Khan MBE FRSA PHF Hon ’ ble President of BCA
Proven Track record in Leadership , former secretary general of BCA , Current president of BCA . Oli is an i n t e r n a t i o n a l l y recognised celebrity chef , Entrepreneur , Philanthropist and one of the leading inspirational personalities of the British Asian community . His emergency response for NHS staff , Care homes and vulnerable peoples in the community during the unprecedented Pandemic . He distributed over 15,000 complementary hot meals to NHS staff , key workers , homeless , bin workers , care homes , fire , police , ambulance services , Post Office , GP , and to isolated elderly and disabled people . Oli has the Guinness World Record title for the World Largest Onion Bhaji weighed 175.48 kg one-piece bhaji , that was made in February 2020 and feed over 500 homeless peoples . Oli has been recognised by Late Her majesty the queen with an MBE ' Member of the Order of the British Empire ' given for an outstanding achievement or service to the hospitality industry and charity in the UK and Abroad during COVID-19 . This panel ’ s vision is to bring change within BCA and the curry Industry . Focusing on strengths and skill sets our aim is to combine experience and expertise along with passion and energy . A dynamic and innovative team , that wants to build trust and confidence . Mitu Chowdhury
Secretary General of BCA
Mitu Chowdhury was born and brought up in Sylhet , Bangladesh in 1964 . He went to the local school and then studied science at the MC College and finally read politics , history and sociology at MC College , Sylhet . After graduating he left for England and settled in Maidstone , Kent joining his brother . He studied BTEC business and finance at Mid Kent college in Maidstone whilst at the same time having a part time job working at the family restaurant so that he could learn the business . After three years Mitu opened his first restaurant in Harrietsham and then in 1993 opened the Mughal Dynasty in Maidstone - a restaurant which he runs very successfully to this day . At the same time that he was running the restaurant he also studied for an Honours degree in Politics at Christ Church University in Canterbury , Kent . At the same time he launched a successful property development business . His interest in politics led him to join the Conservative party in Maidstone where he actively campaigned on behalf of his local MP , Helen Grant . He has been a member of the BCA since opening his first restaurant and was elected Vice President then Joint Chief Treasurer and , he is current running as a successful secretary general of BCA and serving the curry industry . He is fo cusing on efforts on tackling the current issues facing our curry industry , energy cost cap on hospitality sector , need for a reduction on VAT and freeze the Business rates and so on .
BCA is a democratically run nonprofit making organization having an elected executive committee taking control every 2 years . The NEC is the highest forum within the BCA and three key personnel , i . e . President , Secretary General and the Chief Treasurer , run the day-to-day activities under the overall supervision and monitoring of NEC . Current office bearers are , President- Mr Oli Khan MBE , Secretary General- Mr Mitu Chowdhury , Chief Treasurer- Mr Tipu Rahman . BCA has been representing the Bangladeshi curry industry for the last 64 years . The Association exists to ensure that the views of the Bangladeshi Curry industry are represented in a forceful , coherent and coordinated way to government and policy makers in the UK and internationally . As the national trade association for Bangladeshi caterers , our primary role is to lobby with the local and central government across the UK , representing the views of the curry industry .
Tipu Rahman
Chief Treasurer of BCA
When Tipu Rahman moved to the UK from Bangladesh 30 years ago Starting with his Brother Restaurant in Leicester . he discovered a new passion that would shape his career as a chef and creator of South Asian cuisine . He established the Bangladeshi and Nepalese restaurant " Tamarind " in Northampton and went on to win numerous important honours . In addition to winning " International Chef of the Year 2009 – 2010 ," Mr . Rahman also accepted Lady Frazer ' s award for " Best Vegetarian Dish ." Mr . Rahman also holds the title of Official Guinness World Record Holder for the Tallest Stack of Poppadoms ( 2012 ) in addition to receiving the Midlands Curry award for " Best Restaurant in the East Midlands " and the BCA title of " National Chef of the Year 2011-2012 ." Mr Rahman prepared his signature dishes for an Official Scout Jamboree formal ceremony and was requested to cook for Bangladesh Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina , who recognises him as the country ' s culinary ambassador . Mr . Rahman is currently the President of the East Midlands Region and the Senior Vice President of the Bangladesh Caterer Association . He successfully organised and hosted the BCA Official Chef Competition in Northampton College in 2015 – 16 , which was covered by the National media BBC and ITV . In 2022 , Mr . Rahman ventured internationally and launched a flagship fine-dining establishment called " TR Lounge " in the heart of Gulshan -2 Dhaka , Bangladesh .
