This article delves deeper into one of Eve ’ s recent projects , the fine dining restaurant and rooms at The Dipping Lugger on Loch Broom in Ullapool .
The Dipping Lugger , a former manse dating back to 1789 , underwent extensive renovation at the hands of Robert Hicks and Helen Chambers who acquired the property in 2018 . The ultimate goal was to transform the manse into a luxurious retreat and restaurant , retaining its historic essence and charm . Eve Cullen-Cornes , the design director at JCA , believes in creating a concept or theme that resonates with the history of the property or is pertinent to the clients ’ interests . In this case , the history of the building was the driving force behind the design approach with each room and space being individually created to emphasise this journey and experience .
The three ensuite bedrooms are named after characters associated with the manse . MacInnes ( the previous owners ), Melville ( the man who built it ) and Telford ( for his partial rebuilding in 1829 ) - paying homage to its rich past . The rooms feature lavish beds adorned with fresh white cotton sheets , cozy tartan throws , and soft velvet cushions that tempt one to sink in and unwind . Refurbished fireplaces and antique lamps with Cole & Son , Juliet Travers and Morris & Co wallpapers add a touch of warmth and opulence to the rooms . Additionally , the ensuites are spacious and feature a freestanding bathtub with decorative tiles , setting the stage for a sumptuous soak . Also , upstairs another unique space continues with a “ Sweet Shop ” that offers a treasure trove of sweets and liquid indulgences , setting the perfect mood for a nightcap .
The drawing room is an epitome of elegance , with an array of rich features , including dark parquet floor , olive leather wingback chairs , antique velvet sofa , with plump cushions , period fireplace , and gold leaf and lion ‘ Boscobel Oak ’ Cole & Son wallpaper . This was designed for residents to have a night cap after dinner .
The restaurant seats 18 people , Eve used a Morris & Co wallpaper with Robert and Helen ’ s music promotional business posters to give contrast to the design .
The “ Tasting Room ” was created as a space within the dining room to provide an intimate two-table dining and tasting experience , where guests can dine and sample Seven Crofts gin from the Highland Liquor Company which is owned and produced in Ullapool by Robert and Helen .
JCA ’ s efforts at The Dipping Lugger are a true testament to their commitment to creating spaces that are unique and reflective of their clients ’ brands , making them a distinguished name in the industry .
