Tide ’ s Furtune Gin

It is fast-approaching East Coast Distilleries ’ second birthday , and they now have two delicious gins in their main range along with a changing line up of limited-edition runs .
The distillery , based just a short walk away from the scenic backwaters of northeast Essex , launched in June 2020 at a time when most bars , restaurants , and hotels - their intended main customer base - were sadly all closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic . However , the team have been amazed by the local support , and as one loyal customer tells them - it is always gin o clock !
Simon from the team made up of two husband and wives says “ It ’ s not been the start we imagined , but it ’ s been wonderful to get to know our customers locally and they made it obvious that , when it came to developing our second gin in the Tide ’ s Fortune range , it was important to continue to use local ingredients wherever possible . The Elder Pear Dry Gin uses traditional botanicals along with locally foraged Alexanders , dried Elderflower , local honey , and pears grown just up the road in Great Holland .
The roasted pears and honey give a natural sweetness with elderflowers and ginger providing subtle floral notes and a lingering warmth .
Absolutely delicious served with ice , a slice of pear and an elderflower tonic water . We are really pleased with it .”
“ It ’ s an exciting time for us as we can now get out and about . We also have lots more people coming to see us ” says Ben , one quarter of the creative team . “ We run free tours every Saturday so people can learn more about the process and the botanicals that go into our products . The visit is rounded off with a little tipple . We ’ ve been doing these for local bar staff and restaurateurs too , and they have loved leaving armed with even more knowledge to pass onto their customers . It ’ s also great to see local bars , pubs and restaurants start to bounce back and a real desire to stock local wherever possible . Hopefully the lasting positive of the past few years is that people relish what ’ s on their doorstep and we have really loved getting to be part of a community of local makers . ”
