80 THE WORLD OF HOSPITALITY RESTAURANT OPENINGS Introducing Cornwall’ s newest foodie hotspot, The Longstore restaurant in Charlestown The Longstore The Longstore restaurant offers the very best Cornish produce, locally sourced from land and sea; expect signature steaks and seafood - cooked simply, yet boldly with sophisticated flavours. Formerly a sail store for the famous Charlestown tall ships, the Longstore’s look is a gorgeous blend of industrial and rustic, its original materials balanced by the warm, earthy textures of hand-crafted table-tops and leather banquettes. A series of spectacular oyster-shell chandeliers cast in ceramic and finished with an internal copper glaze make the whole restaurant glow. Start your experience with a drink downstairs in the Winestore, or sit at the bar and choose a cocktail from the carefully curated list. In addition to the popular menu daily specials include big cuts for sharing, like Tomahawk and 22oz Sirloins with a choice of sauce or butter (the smoked bone marrow butter is incredible!). Perfect for foodies in search of an authentic Cornish experience, gourmet travellers and cocktail enthusiasts – a buzzy vibe, delicious food, great drinks and service that’s attentive yet relaxed – a warm welcome awaits at The Longstore. Short & Strong cafe – inspired by the team’s time travelling and working in Australia, this Cornish café has an antipodean flavour with a focus on single origin coffee from Origin Coffee Roasters. Artisan coffee is at the fore. Short & Strong regularly hosts cuppings and tastings. Breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes are homemade, courtesy of The Longstore kitchen, along with a range of delicious cakes and pastries. The Winestore – essentially the cellar door for The Longstore… the Winestore stocks an eclectic selection of wines made from more unusual grape varieties - lovingly crafted by small, family owned, local producers with big stories to tell. Friendly expert guidance is on hand from in-house sommelier, Gina Barr who also runs regular ‘meet the maker’ tasting events. The Longstore comes from the team behind Pollocks Pub Co Ltd - a family run business who are quietly expanding their quality hospitality offerings throughout Cornwall – the team also manage The Sharksfin in Mevagissey and The Golden Lion in Port Issac. In Charlestown, in addition to the Longstore they’ve also founded the Winestore (which offers fab supper club/wine tasting events) and Short & Strong café which serves only the best Cornish Origin coffee (both beneath the Longstore restaurant). Their chef director, Ben Ambridge is a Fifteen Cornwall graduate – a success story from Jamie Oliver’s apprentice programme.
