FOOD & DRINK CALCUTTACANTEEN After a four year journey that began as a supper club in her home, Asma Khan founded Darjeeling Express in 2017; an Indian restaurant run by a team of women with no formal training, who learnt from their grandmothers and cook straight from the heart. Her Soho restaurant showcases home-cooked Northern Indian, Bengali and Hyderabadi cuisine and has attracted praise from the likes of Grace Dent and CODE Hospitality who named her one of the Top 100 Influential Women in Hospitality earlier this year. Launching at Market Halls Fulham, Calcutta Canteen is a new concept with a focus on authentic street food from Calcutta. Kati rolls and Puchkas will be available alongside zingy Chaat and Phulki lentil fritters which are suitable for vegans. They will also be making masala chai, fresh mango lassi and salted cumin lassi and serving these alongside traditional Indian soft drinks Thumbs Up and Limca. Since opening, Instagram has been plastered with their unusual charcoal coconut flavour, rotating weekly specials and assortment of lavish toppings and conceptions including affogatos, honeycomb pieces, marshmallows and gourmet popcorn.
