UAB MEDICINE INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM ( IMT ) & COMMAND CENTER
UAB Medicine partnered with The World Games Organizing Committee to provide spectator first aid and athlete medical care . Initial planning was done by a medical committee , then it was transitioned to an incident management team ( IMT ) structure using the Hospital Incident Command ( HICS ) model . The HICS model is compliant with the National Incident Management System ( NIMS ), so its structure was consistent with that of the broader Unified Command . A spectator first aid and athlete medical care branch was added to the more customary operations section functions . UAB Medicine ’ s IMT also participated in the health care coalition ’ s planning and preparedness efforts , including infectious disease outbreak , patient surge , mass casualty , and mass fatality incidents .
