The World Around Us Winter 2013 | Page 23

One of us has to tell him he must leave this place,

Our water is holy and he’s a disgrace.”

“I’ll do it,” Said the Cow.

“He causes us nothing but grief.

I don’t have a whole lot of beefs,

But the time for one is now.”

With that, the cow walked ‘round to the bird.

Just when the vulture bent down to drink,

The cow called out and asked for a word.

He said that he spoke on behalf of the herd.

“Go away. It would be best, I think.”

The vulture glared at the cow for a while.

Then he spread his wings and flew off.

The cow looked back and gave out a smile.

The others cheered and splashed in their Nile.

Soon they turned to return to their troughs.

But as they turned around, five creatures were there.

It was small Mr. Mouse and his four tiny sons.

They were quietly awaiting their turn with care.

For they all knew the others never were fair.

They were cruel to the mice. They bullied each one.

The horse whinnied “It’s the five mouseketeers.

Do you ever listen with those giant ears?

What must we do to make it clear?

We do not, DO NOT want you here.”

“Yeah,” Oinked the pig.

Mice are not very big.

Ya’ll are annoying and weird.

It’d be best if ya’ll just disappear.”

Mr. Mouse spoke in a soft, squeaky voice.

“Friends, will you please let into your pond?

We have waited patiently for all of you to be gone.

We just want to drink and then we’ll move on.”

The other animals scoffed and jeered.

They then decided to take a vote.

“Should they stay? Yeah or nay?” Rang out clear.

“Neigh-h-h-h-h” yelled the horse. The others agreed and cheered.

The mice left. “Won’t miss you!” Called the goat.

One mile away, up on a hill,

There’s a clump of trees and some rocks

The rocks form a bowl and, if it be nature’s will,

There will be rain and the rock-bowl will fill.

The water is cloudy but at least it's in stock.
