Topshop first came into the industry, in 1964, as a concession line called "Peter Robinson's Top Shop". The launch within Sheffields Department Store grew in popularity, aimed at younger shoppers it was the start to an innovative approach to fashion.
In 1965, due to to the success within the concession line, the store expanded into the basement of Peter Robinson store on Oxford Circus.
The 1970's was an iconic moment on the Topshop Timeline. This is the first time the store, alongside its counterpart Topman, entered the high street as a stand alone retailer.
With profits exceeding over £1,00,000 within 2 years, the largest fashion store opens as Topshop / Topman united on Oxford Circus in 1992. The next two years brought the launch of the flagship store on 214 Oxford Street, London, where it still remains today.
It's online presence was lauched in 2000 with Topshop.com and various social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and an Inside-Out Blog giving style advice to its followers.
2002 saw the launch of NEWGEN, the brands scheme to encourage and support British Young Designers, attracting some of the biggest names in the industry such as Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane and Jonathon Saunders.
This is also the year that Sir Phillip Green acquired Arcadia. A chain of retail stores catering for every woman in the market. This brought the store back to its roots becoming a concession once again. Topshop made history in 2005 being the first high street brand to show at London Fashion Week with its Unique collection. This still continues to date and is arguably one of the biggest events in the LFW Calendar.
2007 launched the first of their existing 14 collaborations; with the fashion icon Kate Moss.
With being such a hit in the British Industry, the brand launched a flagship store outside of the UK; in New York.
By 2011, the heavily anticipated collection with the young Irish talent J W Anderson was launched, a completely different vibe to their normal collection with iconic pieces such as the trench coat being a huge success.
The brand continues to grow today with 31 stores set to launch in Europe within the year.
