The first four days of October have been all rain and wind due to the tail end of the hurricane . I am looking forward to a sunny day tomorrow . Well , folks , we now number four living classmates from the 4W8 class . Where did the time go ? We graduated 52 out of a class of 60 . We all have fond memories of Williamson and I have kept in touch as best I could over the years . With this short writing , I will leave you with the present status of the last four .
Walter Mensch : Walt is still at Saratoga Court and doing pretty well . He likes his quarters and walks for exercise . He goes to therapy classes to keep his limbs limber . Phone : 610-323-4365 .
Albert Whalen : Our No . 1 cross country runner now has Myasthenia Gravis and some back problems . He has a neighbor that helps him and two daughters that spoil him rotten ( go , girls !). He has lost some of his freedom , but hangs in there with help . I recently had a long chat with Al which we both enjoyed . Al still lives in Elwood City , Pa . Phone : 724-758-3209 .
Don Zimmerman : Don has a number of health issues , the last of which is kidney cancer . He has been getting around with a walker and keeps busy at the house . Don has had a good life and has a positive outlook on life . He still lives in Mount Juliet , Tenn . Phone : 615- 419-0715 .
Don ’ s wife , Kat , has had many back surgeries . She has been recuperating from the last one for many months , has had some good results , but has a long way to go . Phone : 615-419-4260 .
Dick Phillips : I have had several health problems along the way . I have had a pacemaker for over two years and I am now in stage 4 kidney disease . I still drive , get around with a cane , and get out for lunch or dinner with friends once in a while . All of my info is at the top of the article .
I have included each person ’ s phone number . Give them a call . I ’ m sure they would love to hear from you . As always , keep in touch , it ’ s later than you think ! Above all , be good to each other !

with the Brown family since we last wrote . The ongoing COVID pandemic has limited a lot of what we want to do . Once it is over - or at least to the point where we don ’ t need to wear masks all the time , we ’ ll do more traveling .
Walt ’ s oldest , Jeff , and his wife , Renate , drove from their home in Delaware to Roanoke , Va ., for a reunion of sorts . Walt ’ s eldest daughter , Lauren , now lives in Knoxville , Tenn ., and his youngest , Lisa , lives in Portugal .
Lisa , who has been overseas for the past nine months , came back to visit Lauren in February , and so they met Jeff and Renate halfway in Roanoke . They spent the time exploring the city and catching up . Even with today ’ s technology and social media , nothing beats a good-old-fashioned get-together . All of Walt ’ s great-grandkids and great-greatgrandchildren are doing well .
Jeff and Renate will celebrate 47 years of wedded bliss together in July . They both have the aches and pains of being in their 60s , but are relatively healthy . They ’ re loving life , retirement , and a paid-off mortgage !
As usual , Jeff encourages anyone with an interest in Air Force history to visit the Air Mobility Command Museum at Dover AFB . He ’ s on the board of directors for the foundation that funds the museum , and says it ’ s a must-see . Check the website at amcmuseum . org .
9-28-2022 Called Ted Moyer : He is doing fine even with some arthritis . His grandchildren are still using his mountain home . Ted and I did a lot of laughing , about our times of years ago . I just telephoned Ted again to talk to him and told him what I had written so far and he said , “ I am up on the roof painting and I don ’ t want it to dry . Can you call me back later ?” He still has carpal tunnel in his left wrist , but still able to roof paint . His son was in the hospital for three months and his daughter is going to bring him home . He will have a visiting nurse come to care for him and the hospital will bring his food .
10-3-2022 Visited Ina Ferguson : Ina is upset over what they are doing where she lives at Arbour Square , a retirement home , because they are renovating two of the main entrances , and some of the hall ways are closed off . They have three main entrances and the only one that is in service is about 1 / 8 mile away . To get to the main entrance that is open , she has to walk to an elevator and go to the second floor and walk to an elevator and go to the first floor and continue walking to the open entrance . To get to the dining room , she has to use the two elevators and walk to the dining room . Ina does have a small entrance close to her apartment , but to use that you

would want a car . We agreed on another topic and that was the way our country and the world is going . We both felt sorry for our children and especially our grandchildren , but Ina and I didn ’ t worry about it for ourselves at our age and that Jesus might come and take us up with him any minute .
10-7-2022 Will Eastlack : I ’ m doing fine here at Dock Woods . I tell people I ’ m only 29 years old ; I reverse the numbers . I have no aches or pains . I run through the hall ways . My Lord and Savior , and my Heavenly Father who adopted me as his son when Jesus presented me to God sinless . I wrote a life story on “ My Life with Jesus and Heavenly Father .” I won ’ t be skiing this year ; and probably never again . This May I fell in my apartment and broke three ribs , cut my leg , and bruised my back . I called six other wives of Williamson men who were active and sent them letters , but the only response was from Ina Ferguson .

Hello again to all you folks that read class notes for gossip and info . I will start with the sad news first . Back on June 10 , Jack Feathers passed away in Farmville , Va . He had been dealing with a stroke and was living with a son and family . After Williamson , he received degrees from the U . of Penn and U . of Virginia . He served in the Army as a surveying instructor in the Corp of Engineers at Fort Belvoir , Va . I remember spending time with him there in the summer of ’ 58 , while I was in mapping school . He later became a math instructor and coach at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia . Even later , he became the academic dean and director of summer school prior to his retirement . Involved in community activities , he was a lifetime member of both the Fluvanna Fire Dept . and the Volunteer Rescue Squad . He was a deacon in the Fork Union

Baptist Church and sang in the choir . Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife Donna ( 55 years ), a son , Scott , and granddaughter , Erin Lee . He is survived by his sons Richard , Rob , and Brian . Also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren . You may recall that Jack was editor of our yearbook and the extra issue with all our prom and graduation pictures .
I ’ m happy to report we just had another 5W4 Alumni Luncheon at Shady Maple on Oct . 11 . Laura Brown of WCT was so very helpful along with Dick Dunlap 6W5 in arranging all the details . We extended the invitations to many other classes from the 40s , 50s , 60s , and 70s . We figured most of these men would be retired and available for a noon meeting . The response was great . The day had nice weather and we had a total of 47 alumni . Included were many wives , a few family members , and five folks from WCT . There were 17 classes represented . If you realize the ages of these men ( 70 to 90 ), there were wheelchairs , walkers , and canes to be seen .
Don and Gloria Kemper were with us along with son Keith and daughter Joy . Joy was able to arrange a driver and a special van for them . Also from 5W4 were Marie and Al Grover , Ruth and Wayne Zimmerman , Dave Schrenk , and my wife Alke . We had a final total of 69 , which is a new record of attendance . Bob and Esther Mench had signed up , but Hurricane Ian changed their plans . Bob has a home in Venice , Fla ., that was right in the path of that storm . They had to go and see what damage awaited them . It turned out he would need a roof and believe it or not he , at 87 , chose to fix it himself . Bob ’ s fortunate to be pretty healthy for an old GEEZER like the rest of us . I hope to head south in January and will certainly visit and dine with them . At least that ’ s the plan . It ’ s hard to believe we 5W4 guys are getting close to 90 . UGH ! BTW , my daughter in Englewood , Fla ., also will need a new roof on her home . I wish I could help them with their damage problems , but these legs of mine are like a 100-yearold . That Ian storm really made a mess of a portion of the Gulf Coast .
News from classmates has been somewhat weak . As we approach 90 , the aches and pains are increasing . No fun with that !! I won ’ t list all those ailments we deal with , but I ’ ll just say how about a little prayer for all us old and young alumni guys and their families .
Now , in spite of the moans and groans , I did book another lunch for next year on the 10th of October . The prices will probably bump up a bit as every thing else has jumped . Shady Maple really is a popular place to visit . More details next year . Laura Brown has called and said the school will host a lunch on April
