Had a note from Carl Lingertot. He and Shirley spent a few weeks in the North Georgia mountains during the summer. They also visited family and friends in Pennsylvania in the fall. Salmon fishing was a success in Alaska again this year. So far, Carl and Shirley have no definite plans for 2017.
Sandy Mellor and Hanne are doing fine. They sold their RV, so they won’ t be doing the southern PGA this winter. Sandy will be getting in touch with you guys and gals about another luncheon this coming summer( around July 4th) at Shady Maple. So try to clear your calendars for either the week before or the week after the 4th.
Joe Updegrove dropped me a line in December. He and Lane are doing well, with just a few aches and pains. Their frequent trips to Minnesota have stopped since the passing of Lane’ s mother just after Thanksgiving and within one month of her 96th birthday. Their grandson is now on his own and doing well. Joe and Lane are undertaking a remodeling project at home. He says he is letting the professionals do the work, he will be looking over their shoulders( that’ s going to cost him another 20 percent).
Pat and I had a nice visit with our son Ed and his family in Georgia over the holidays. In late October, we spent a week with our other son Jay and his family in California. Our oldest grandson is a senior and was the number one runner on the high school cross country team. Tristan has had some feelers from colleges about a scholarship to run CC. He also is on the varsity soccer and track teams. After visiting California we stopped in Vail, Colo., for a week of R & R. It is a beautiful part of the country. Right now I am playing golf at the local golf club three times a week( and loving it). The weather has been great most days. We are planning a 9-day vacation in Hawaii( Maui) in late April. Should be fun. We are planning to be in Pennsylvania for 10 days during the July 4th celebration and plan to attend the Shady Maple luncheon. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
That is it for now. Ed 5W7 Miller

Hello Classmates,
Andy Pitonyak is doing much better. He and Sandy took a trip to Colorado this past year. They also went down the East Coast hoping to spend a week, but were chased away by a pesky storm that was headed north.
Charley Bordner( class president) and wife Pat usually go to the Poconos in October and sometimes off to Massachusetts. Over his 40 years working at Quaker Oats, much of his time was spent in maintenance. For Charley, everyday then became interesting because there was always something different to do and intermingle

with different people. Along the way he learned many different skills such as pipe fitting, welding, lathe work, and masonry, etc.
Oh, by the way, he just realized that their dog now holds the mortgage to the house and allows he and Pat to live there!
Bob Adams and I spoke for quite a while about growing up in wonderful times, having nothing and not knowing it, then having the opportunity to go to Williamson. Also, after graduating, spending time with George Vanderslice water skiing and being pulled at 40 miles per hour at Virginia Beach.
Bob Quay went to New Mexico with his son for a visit. As you may remember, Bob was having some heart problems, so his son Bobby made an appointment for him at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas. They found that one of his arteries was clogged causing some blood stoppage to his brain. They put in a stent. They also found that one of his heart valves had stopped working. On Jan. 16 they will go to Dallas and the next morning have another heart valve implanted with the same procedure as with a stent and leaving the failed valve in place. Bob will be in the hospital for three days after which they will be going to the“ OK Corral,” then on home to Montana.
Jack Kavanaugh called to say he has moved into a senior retirement complex which isn’ t far from his home in“ The Villages” in Florida. The complex is only about two years old, has great amenities, and is very affordable. Since Jack lives alone, I think it was a great move.
Dan Courter just hired someone to remove the snow from his house roof after it had just snowed, rained, snowed again, then rained again. Although he is slowing down on his projects, he has managed to build built-ins for his grandson’ s bedroom, a cherry desk, a cherry bedroom set, and for a friend, a pine and walnut paneled front door. Over a period of time, he has accumulated quite an array of woodworking tools. Dan’ s house is on an island and all of the waterfront land( like many places) has become so valuable and taxable that the small homes that were there and left to family members have become unaffordable for them. Thus, they are being sold and very large and elaborate homes have taken their place. Along with that, driving south from NH is now a nightmare so traveling isn’ t so much fun anymore.
Ken Staiger is still battling the deer in his yard. They especially like pansies. He said there used to be one or two. The other night he counted thirteen. That may have something to do with living close to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Kens wife Von is still battling cancer. The doctors have changed her medication three or four times and of course there are the side effectsm but Ken says she is tough and keeps on pushing herself. Prayers help.
Some of the guys have said when mentioning another classmate“ I should really give him a call”. I have all of their Phone numbers and e-mail addresses. If you call, leave a message and I’ ll call you back or I’ ll pick up the phone.. If you call just one classmate you may be surprised to find how much they have to say and how much laughter will come from a phone visit.

Greetings fellow indentured servants. Today is Jan. 14, 2017. Our last class notes were written back in the summer of 2016. So, we have a lot of catching up to do. I wrote to each classmate that I have an EM listed for. I asked for any class news you could offer. I was very pleased to get a response EM back from eight classmates.
In no special order, Andy Keller writes he and Barb are doing good and taking life easy. Andy is recovering from a shoulder replacement and still doing some exercises to get full movement. He continues to be very much involved in his Masonic work and the Shriners.
Barb Smith mentioned Bill’ s cataracts are so bad, he can hardly see to drive. He has surgery planned in two months. In the meantime, Barb has taken on the driving responsibilities. The good news is Bill had a recent PET Scan and his cancer mass is shrinking. The Smiths will continue their travels again, following Bills eye surgery.

Glad to hear from Don Clapper. He wrote, We are doing fine and keeping busy. My brother and son and two grandsons were on a hunting trip to Kansas. The grandsons got six deer and we missed ours. Then my son-in-law went to AK, to install a kitchen I made as well as other work for a family in the church up there. I plan to go to Louisiana to restore homes damaged by disasters. A group of us have been going there for eight years every February. Carol is doing well, she is a care giver for three ladies. She has been doing that for 20 years. She makes quilts for all 48 of our grandchildren. I was hoping to look up Oates in AK, but he was three hours away. Our youngest daughter lives with us, but we have our separate quarters.
Bob Berwager wrote not a lot going on in, New Oxford, Pa. However, he reports they are both doing well. Bob called the Smiths over the holidays. The Berwager’ s keep Frank Riley and all our other classmates in their prayers. Joe Neibert wrote he keeps in touch with Mummert, Hawk, and Rock McLaughlin, regularly. He reports he is recovering from Lumbar L1 to S1 decompression surgery, done in Dec. 2016. He claims it was tougher than he had thought.
