with his ’57 Thunderbird for the antique car
show. Bryan returned home from working
at the “cottage” in northern Pennsylvania on
Nov. 7 when, during the night, a chimney
fire inflicted major damage to their home in
Perkasie. Rosemarie and Bryan are presently
living in a townhouse on the other side of
Quakertown, and will probably be there until next summer. I can’t imagine the trauma
of a major house fire. They are salvaging
what they can from the fire, and the rebuilding process has begun. The Wert’s will leave
for an extended vacation on Jan. 10.
I talked to Vince Barth several times this
fall. Vince slipped and broke an ankle and
was in a cast to mend it. Betty and Vince are
enjoying the condo on the beach at Sea Isle
City. Vince is chomping at the bit to be able
to drive to sporting events that the grandkids are involved in.
Email from Litzke 12/5: Cakes, Nothing
new on the home front. Settling in at our
new digs. Like most folks our age we are following our grandchildren around and trying to remember if we ever had that much
energy. Good health to everybody or good
drugs. I saw George and his brother Jim
7W3 at a 5W4 winter gathering at the home
of Dave Schrenk (5W4 train buff) in December, and we brought all of the old war
stories up to date.
Email from Sill 12/8: Yo, Norm, News time
again. Well, Barbara and I are still settling
into retirement which takes some doing
after working over 50 years. I still keep my
finger in the recruiting business, but will totally close my office someday. Our kids and
grandkids are all doing fine, and we spend a
lot of time doing family gatherings and holidays together. As far as our class goes, we
need to plan a lunch in a central location so
lots of the boys can get together again. Those
war stories told at our 50th reunion have
surely grown, and need to be told again.
Since we are all in our 70s, let’s get serious
about mini-reunions before our numbers
begin to dwindle. Darrell B-42.
Darrell and I have chatted about getting together at the Shady Maple Restaurant in East
Earl, not too far from the Morgantown exit
of the turnpike, as a class for lunch. There
are side rooms for groups to be together,
and the food is great. He pointed out that
we are now down four classmates, and well
into that gray area of life when things happen quickly and you are on the road to the
cemetery. I was there for a 5W4 and guests
lunch this fall, and who walks into the room
but Jerry Starnowsky (B-47) and his wife. I
had not seen or heard from him since we
graduated. He saw the Williamson sign on
the door to our room and decided to investigate. I didn’t recognize him until he spoke,
then the accent was a dead giveaway. We
had some time to chat. He lives in the Harrisburg area and has been retired from the
steel industry for over ten years. Yes boys,
time is getting short, we need to get together
more often, maybe some of the boys that we
haven’t seen since graduation will come out
of the woodwork to join us. I would love to
get some feedback on this idea.
Email from Reds 12/22: News from New
Smyrna Beach, Fla., actually not much news
here. All is well with family and friends
which in itself is
