Elizabeth M . “ Liz ” Marafino Fiola
Advancement Officer
Elizabeth M . “ Liz ” Marafino Fiola , brings years of fund-raising experience in a variety of areas to her position of advancement officer in the Office for Institutional Advancement .
She was attracted to Williamson because of the mission and the way in which the college helps its students . “ In my work , I talk to many alumni and they tell me stories of how Williamson changed their lives . It is a powerful testament to the college ’ s mission when you see how it changes lives .”
Marafino Fiola worked five years at Gemma Services ( formerly theVillage ) in Rosemont , Pa ., an organization that helps children and families deal with behavioral health issues , rising through the ranks as development coordinator , senior development coordinator , and development officer .
Earlier , she was a development associate at the Lantern Theater Co . in Philadelphia .
She grew up in Jennerstown , Pa ., and attended Bishop McCort High School , in Johnstown , where she was very involved in the drama department , acting and singing in plays . “ I did it all except dancing . I had to turn down roles in musicals with dancing .”
Her interest in theater got its start from her family , which is very theatrical . Her grandfather founded the Mountain Playhouse in Jennerstown in 1939 and at the age of about nine she began performing . Her first play was the Miracle Worker in which she played a blind child . “ I got my interest in theater from my grandfather and also from spending my summers seeing the professional actors who came from New York City to perform in summer stock .”
Her parents were also interested in theater with her mother doing production work and her father performing on stage and serving as a stage manager . Her brothers also were involved .
Marafino Fiola earned a bachelor of arts degree in communications at Villanova University and immediately after graduation stayed to earn a master of arts degree in theatre with a certificate in nonprofit management . “ I learned

about fundraising while working on my master ’ s degree . That ’ s when I had a moment where I saw I could make a big impact and still be involved in the arts .”
While working on her master ’ s degree she was president of the Student Theatre Club , acting in shows , directing , and overseeing .”
At this time , she met her husband , David , who isn ’ t involved in theatre , but enjoys watching productions .
While working at Gemma , she earned a second master ’ s degree in nonprofit leadership at the University of Pennsylvania .
She volunteers as a director and stage manager for the Players Club of Swarthmore and is involved with the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals where she serves on the Programming Committee .
She and her husband live in Broomall with their baby , Sam .
Shane P . Goodworth 1W7
Groundskeeper
Shane Goodworth 1W7 is excited about working at Williamson after graduating only several years ago .
He said , “ It ’ s nice to be here and not have to worry about getting hours and I can pull out my phone without thinking about it . Working here feels a little strange , but I ’ m glad to be here .”
Goodworth , who studied horticulture as a student , returned to Williamson because he saw it as a good position with work he is used to doing and an opportunity to keep learning .
Among his responsibilities will be designing some flower beds and working several Saturdays a month with students who are working off hours .
After graduating , he worked one year for the Phillies Urban Youth , an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies , maintaining two baseball fields and two softball fields , and two years at the Episcopal Academy as a groundskeeper .
During this time , he worked parttime on the Philadelphia Eagles grounds crew at all home games , painting the field and putting up nets . When the COVID-19 pandemic hit , the team stopped using part-time employees .
Goodworth grew up in Norwood and graduated from Interboro High School , where he studied horticulture in votech and was on the Student Council and yearbook staff .
He decided to attend Williamson after hearing many positive things about it from his father Bill Goodworth 8W2 and his brother Eric 1W6 .
He found the strictness and schedule a little difficult to deal with , and the hardest part was getting up early . After graduating , he said it was all worth it and what he learned about discipline is helping him now . He now actually likes getting up early .
He lives at home with his family , but is planning to get an apartment soon . He enjoys spending time with his brother and friends and enjoys his dog Phoenix , a King Charles Cavaliere .

In the second of a series of virtual demonstrations in a partnership between Williamson and the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture , Mike Neville 0W0 , director of construction technology-carpentry ( third from left ), explains how to platform frame and “ stand up ” a typical wood frame exterior wall to architecture students at Notre Dame . Also taking part in the demonstration were ( from left to right ): John Capuzzi 0W2 , assistant carpentry instructor , carpentry students Steven Barr 2W1 and William Tilley 2W2 , and Stephen Hartley , director of construction management . This demonstration followed an earlier masonry demonstration .
