20 family during this time . Other than Jesus Christ , there is no greater love than that of a mother ! Cherish the wonderful memories and the beautiful experiences that your mother provided for you and your family .
In December , Williamson ’ s chaplain , Rev . Mark Specht 7W7 , and assistant chaplain , Sean Howat , made the daily chapel services available to all alumni via Williamson ’ s website . Each morning , Mark and Sean read from scripture and delivered an inspiring message . I made it a daily routine in December to begin each morning “ in ” the Williamson chapel . For me , it was a great way to begin each day in Advent leading up to Christmas . Thank you Mark and Sean for making these chapel services available to the alumni .
If you recall from our last class notes , I was posed the question as to who were the seven or eight guys grounded 8-weeks for a “ party ” in George Dorm . Well , our class president Dennis Hollenbach fessed-up that he was one of the party goers ! Thank you , Dennis . That means , Gary Charnock , Dennis , and yours truly were three of the culprits .
Also , from our last class notes , I mentioned briefly that my wife Diana and I finally made the move to downsize to a smaller home in Salisbury , Md . Our new address is : 206 Creekside Drive , Salisbury , MD 21804-2801 . We do , however , continue to head south for the winter in Fort Myers Beach , Fla .
I hope you gentlemen enjoyed reading the fall 2020 issue of The Williamsonian . I enjoy reading the fall issue every year because the 50th anniversary class is featured . This year ’ s fall issue was particularly interesting because it featured our seniors , the Class of 1970 . It was nice reading about our seniors ’ lives since graduation and what advice they have for today ’ s students . Congratulations to our seniors for their record-setting 50th reunion class gift of $ 197,000 . Although $ 100,000 was made by an anonymous donor , that doesn ’ t diminish the fact that the other classmates chipped in $ 97,000 . That ’ s a nice gift , no matter how you look at it . Great job , gentlemen ! You raised the bar for all 50th anniversary class gifts . Hopefully , your freshmen can follow your example and provide a “ nice ” class gift in 2022 !
I know it ’ s hard to believe , but in the next 16 months or so , it will be our turn to step-up and present our alma mater with “ our best ” class gift . When deciding on your contribution to our class gift , think about the impact that Williamson has had on your life , and make a gift accordingly . What you decide to contribute to our class gift is a personal decision . For me personally , in 1969 , there was no money in my family to send me to college . Does this describe your situation as well ? Thanks to Williamson , each of us received an $ 18,000 scholarship and graduated in 1972 with NO student debt . How many college graduates can make that claim today ? Answer : Not many ! Just read the headlines
|
about student debt , the amount is staggering . Williamson provided me with the building blocks , on which , to build a successful career and I shall forever be thankful and grateful .
On July 1 , 2021 , we can begin making on-line donations to our 50th anniversary class gift . Williamson makes it very easy to donate on-line . Follow these instructions : Log-in to williamson . edu ; Click on “ Make a Gift ” ( the yellow highlighted box in the upper right-hand corner ); Scroll down and fill-out the form with your information ; Where it states , “ Please select the appropriate appeal category from the menu below ,” click-on “ Select ” and then “ 50th Reunion .” You may also choose the frequency ( daily , weekly , monthly , etc .) of your donation . This allows you to setup an amount and frequency of your donation for our 50th anniversary class gift , and forget about it !
Any classmate who is able to make a donation of $ 5,000 . or more to our class gift , has the option of making a pledge over a 3-year period . Pledge forms will be made available to anyone interested in this option . This may be a good option for anyone needing to take required minimum distributions ( RMD ) from their IRAs at age 72 . I recommend that you discuss this with your financial planner and accountant .
Laura Brown , director of alumni relations , and Kelsey Turk , advancement officer , have been very helpful to me and they stand ready to assist us with any questions or concerns regarding our 50th class reunion , class gift , or any alumni related questions in general .
Allow me to leave you with this quote by Frank Cross 6W1 . Frank says , “ Stop and think , where else in the USA is there another Williamson ? It behooves every graduate to give what they can afford to continue the legacy of Williamson to help the men behind us to receive the gift of education as we did .”
That ’ s it for now , gentlemen ! Check out williamson . edu regularly to find out what ’ s happening at our alma mater . Until next time , keep in touch , stay healthy , and may God bless and watch over you and your families .

Classmates ,
Well , Christmas is over and the year 2020 is over thank God . What a strange year it has been . I for one am looking forward to 2021 and beyond . I hope everyone is well , As you read these notes . I did receive some news from classmates this fall .
Andrew Spear sent me a note . He and his wife Diane have lived in Montana since 2003 . They built a house up on a mountain about 75 miles south

of Glacier Park near the southeast side of Flathead Lake overlooking the Mission Mountains in the town of Polson . Andrew and his wife enjoy living out West . They do a lot of traveling to the western states . He ’ s also been involved in a lot of duck and bird carvings and he competes in world competitions . He got a visit from Charlie Eisenhart several years ago as Charlie and his wife were touring Glacier Park and he ’ s also been in touch with Steve Orndorf who married Andrew ’ s sister . They have two daughters and three grandkids which they ’ re enjoying regularly and they still live in northeast Maryland .
Thank you Andrew for sending your notes . It was great to hear from you and I ’ m glad to hear you ’ re doing well .
I also received an update from Dennis Schwandt . Dennis has just completed his seventh year with Frommeyer Construction Services as a project supervisor . It ’ s a small company out of Malvern , Pa ., focusing on medical and professional office alterations , fit outs , etc . They also do work in various hospitals in the area . Dennis says he still gets to work with the tools of the trade although most of his work is supervisory . He hopes to retire in seven years , possibly . His wife Nancy continues her 30 + year battle with MS , but continues to decline . Not being politically correct Dennis refers to her as “ one tough broad .” His kids are still at home . His son works from home and is employed as a private contractor with global investment companies dealing with software development and product management . It is a blessing that he ’ s home with Mom should she need assistance . He has lived and worked in New York City for 15 + years as well as a few years in Hong Kong , Japan , and London . Their daughter works for the Chester County Intermediate Unit out of Coatesville as a teaching assistant working with at risk students at the high school level . Prior to that , a teacher at one of the Goddard schools in the area . She also is a support for Mom . The family also has four cats an English Lab name Murdoch and a recently rescued English Springer Spaniel named Cooper . Thanks again , Dennis , for your update . Our prayers go out for your wife as she battles with her illness .
Dennis also mentioned that his goal will be to monthly send a check to our class fund as we approach our 50th anniversary . What a great idea , Dennis . The class appreciates any amount you can send . He invites other classmates to give this approach a shot if it works best for them .
The school has reached out to me to start planning our 50th reunion party . They would like the class to form a committee to begin working on the details . If anyone in the class has any interest in working on this committee with me please contact me either by email or by cell phone . I ’ m getting ready to talk to the Development Office at the school and start the process . June 2023 is not

that far away .
That is about all the information I have for now . Again , I hope everyone stays safe . I am so looking forward to our 50th anniversary . It is still hard to believe that it has been 50 years . And I also hope by 2023 we can actually get together in person . I felt bad for the Class of 7WO who had to schedule their reunion twice and cancel it both times . My last request is that as you read these notes please take a minute to think about your class gift and please drop me an email and let me know how you ’ re doing . There are many of you that I have not seen or heard from since June of 1973 . If you would like to send in your gift for the class please make the check out to , “ Williamson 2023 Fund .”

Gents ,
I ’ m writing this in early January . My best wishes to all my Williamson bothers . I am hoping you and your families have a great 2021 . We sure can use it . My wife Sheila and I are doing well , healthy , and in a good rhythm with the requirements of the pandemic … staying home as much as possible . I have been busy working on building a solid walnut Queen Ann Highboy , it has been a real challenge . Woodworking has been my savior ; it gives me a rewarding and enjoyable hobby . Sheila spends her time in the gardens . Living in Houston , gardening is pretty much a year-round activity . All three of the kids , Kevin , Charlie , and Ana are working in good jobs and healthy . As my trip to Hags and our mini-reunion was cancelled last year due to the pandemic , it is my hope that I can use my airline tickets sometime this year post-vaccine . I know that Hag is also looking forward to a get-together once things are safe . Man , do I miss you guys . I have been in touch with some of you , but all-in-all , have not received much feedback on what everyone is up to probably because like me , most are staying home and don ’ t have much to report . Here is what I have …
Jack Leary quit smoking and has stayed with it . He ’ s smoked since he was at Willy , so this is commendable . He got a doe this year shooting from his yard , but no buck . Jack hunts with a crossbow , he can ’ t shoot a gun in Delaware County . His wife Kris is still out of work due to the pandemic and considering retirement . His middle son lives with them one week a month , and his other son is considering moving back in . Seems like there is no empty nest in the Leary household . Jack lost his babysitting job to the pandemic since his grandchildren are not going to school . He said he talks to Kenny every week , he is doing pretty
