NEW FARM HELPS MITOCHONDRIAL DISEASE RESEARCH
RAY WHITE CANTERBURY GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE
The team at Ray White Canterbury was the number one fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House this year , travelling a combined 5,000km to raise $ 15,339 for the charity in March .
The 21 teammates had a goal to raise $ 4,410 by completing 4,410km ($ 1 for every km ) but with some healthy internal competition managed to smash these figures to raise nearly triple that amount , placing Ray White Canterbury as the number one fundraising organisation nationwide .
Congratulations to the team for putting their best foot forward for an incredible cause !
Starting in 2014 , Ray White New Farm has raised approximately $ 500,000 for UMDF , supporting mitochondrial disease education and research .
Ray White New Farm salesperson Karla Lynch first heard of the debilitating illness when her close friends Mark and Vanessa Rotolone lost their son Ari to the disease .
“ The whole community was at loss as to how and what we could do to support Mark and Vanessa and from here we decided to orgnaise an event called The Long Lunch to raise awareness and support for Mito ,” Ms Lynch said .
The first event was hosted at Vine Restaurant which was owned by Mark and Vanessa at the time , and raised about $ 20,000 . The most recent event had 230 attendees and raised just over $ 150,000 .
In May , Ms Lynch , Mark Rotolone , and Ray White New Farm principal Haesley Cush visited the University of Queensland to attend the mitochondrial disease research lab .
There is currently no cure for mitochondrial disease , but Ms Lynch said the research team was working hard to find one .
