JOHN BOWRING
Ray White New Zealand lead auctioneer John Bowring originally aspired to be a race caller , but his career in sales quickly lead him down the path to becoming an auctioneer .
John started his auctioneering career with Ray White Remuera some 15 years ago .
“ Megan Jaffe gave me my first opportunity as an auctioneer , and I took it with both hands and never looked back ,” he said .
“ I am truly lucky as I don ’ t see my job as a job but something I love , and they say if you find something you love you never work a day in your life .”
Starting his day as an auctioneer at 5.45am with a gym workout , John then spends some time with his two children Gigi and Indi .
“ There is certainly no average day as an auctioneer , as every day is extremely exciting ,” he said .
“ Mondays and Tuesday are reserve-set days where I would set between 20-40 reserves depending on how many auctions I have that week .
“ Tuesday , Wednesday , Thursday , Friday are all auction days , so it ’ s game day on those days .
“ I also spend quite a bit of time on auctioneering tasks , understanding the property , talking with sellers , and speaking with agents before reserve sets and especially leading up to auction day .”
JOHN ’ S TOP TIP
The best advice I ’ ve ever been given as an auctioneer is that it ’ s not about the auctioneer , it ’ s about the agent . Because without the agent I simply have no job . Stay humble and be yourself .
