I am almost certain it was probably about the auction process . From the photo you can see that Ray placed the word Auctioneer straight under his name . As a child , I remember sitting on Ray ’ s lap with him saying things such as “ auctions are the best way to sell anything , it encourages people to come and compete against others .”
It may be of interest to know that across Australia and New Zealand , we now conduct more than 25 per cent of all auctions ; no one else comes remotely close to that and it ’ s such a powerful message to use when talking to your potential vendors .
“ Ray White would be nowhere near the powerhouse it is today , if we didn ’ t believe in the benefits of the auction process to our vendors .” Never once have we faulted in that belief .
So persuasive was our story to the government regulators of the importance auctions are to our company , that they granted us the right to describe ourselves as “ Competition Creators ® ”. A phrase that many of our members are using with great success .
Of course time moved on , but it ’ s important to remember that recommending auctions became ingrained in the business . One of my tasks as a young boy was going with my father to the auctions that weekend and “ running the sheets ” from my father ( the auctioneer ) to the accounts team . We ’ ve never stopped believing the benefits an auction brings .
We have some great stories of how auctions have transformed individual careers . Can anyone beat the Josh Tesolin story ? Josh has had his own Ray White office in Sydney for nearly two years , and had only performed one auction in all the time before he joined us . In the last nine weeks , when the market was supposed to be weaker than it had been before , Josh ’ s team conducted 56 auctions with 54 sales ! What an achievement , what an endorsement .
