JANE AND CAREY SIMONSON RAY WHITE NEW PLYMOUTH , NZ
WHO
The idea of holding a yacht race across the Tasman Sea to Mooloolaba originated in the late 1960s . New Plymouth Yacht Club members , Howard Vosper , Dennis Lobb and Phillip Goodsell proposed holding a singlehanded Trans-Tasman race at an AGM and a committee was formed in 1968 .
The first race attracted five entries , three from New Zealand , one from Australia and one from USA - an international race . Thirteen races have been run with the next one being held in April 2023 and currently there are 11 entries . The 2023 edition of the race , which will be the 14th race in its history , will finish at the Southport Yacht Club on Queensland ’ s Gold Coast rather than Mooloolaba . It will once again start from the New Plymouth Yacht Club , Taranaki .
WHAT
Following a meeting with the organising committee , we were honoured to be able to take on the role of naming right sponsors for the 2023 event . Ray White New Plymouth saw an opportunity to become a sponsor of something unique that creates a lot of community interest , that has national and international media interest and recognition . We also thought there was an obvious connection with Ray White Australia and something that the company , as a whole , could take advantage of on both sides of the Tasman with the start in New Zealand and finish in Australia .
WHY
The main benefit to Ray White New Plymouth is from the branding of the event and the visual impact it has leading up to and during the event . It provides a huge opportunity to display Ray White New Plymouth branding on all media running up to and during the event . It also confirms along with existing sponsorship of charity , cultural and other sporting groups that Ray White New Plymouth is a major player when it comes to community sponsorship . In time we see the community perceiving Ray White New Plymouth as caring for the local community and from that enjoying additional community reciprocity .

WHO
WHAT
There ’ s a residential property on the premises and we ’ ll provide their property management which will enable them to keep dollars in their pocket . What I love is we ’ re helping them with what we do normally - we do property management as part of our business . We donate our services and it ’ s a great way to contribute . We also participate in their big calendar fundraiser each year and we support their annual gala event .
WHY
We have two sausage dogs ourselves and we ’ ve always been oriented around pooches , so being attached to Angel Paws made a lot of sense . I think community sponsorship reduces the myth that our industry is just transaction based by demonstrating community involvement . It ' s a piece to the puzzle in being an attractive business by being community minded . It ’ s also just being actively and sincerely part of the community . Angel Paws also brings puppies to our workplace which helps with the welfare of our staff . It ’ s always wonderful to have something to talk about other than real estate , and we love talking about Angel Paws !
Angel Paws animal rescue have saved 1,200 animals in the past year . It ' s an exciting adventure for this not-for-profit as they ’ ve bought their first premises which is a kennel and cattery as a base for their rehoming .
Ever since Ray White commenced its national Pooch Party we jumped on board , we always attached a rescue to our Pooch Parties which we ’ ve hosted four of .
