IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Kaz Hosaka

As we gather for the 149th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show , we take a moment to honor the memory of Kaz Hosaka , a beloved and revered figure in the dog show world , who we sadly lost in 2024 . Kaz ’ s incredible career was defined by a deep connection with the dogs he handled , his unparalleled skill , and his enduring legacy of excellence in the sport .
Kaz ’ s most recent triumph came at our 2024 show , where he expertly guided Sage , a beautiful Miniature Poodle , to win the prestigious Best in Show title . His masterful handling of Sage captivated the audience and solidified Kaz ’ s status as one of the greats in the sport . This victory marked Kaz ’ s second time atop the Westminster podium — in 2002 , he handled his Miniature Poodle Spice to his first Westminster Best in Show victory , which set a foundation for his legacy as one of the finest handlers of Poodles in history .
Throughout his more than 40-year career , Kaz was celebrated not only for his technical expertise but for the genuine bond he formed with the dogs in his care . His calm , confident presence in the ring , combined with his deep understanding of each dog ’ s personality , set him apart . These qualities earned him respect and admiration from his peers and created unforgettable moments of excellence in the show ring .
Outside the ring , Kaz was known for his kindness , humility , and willingness to share his knowledge with others . He mentored many aspiring handlers and was always generous with his time and wisdom . Those who knew him best say his passion for the sport and love for dogs defined every aspect of his life .
As we celebrate the best in purpose-bred dogs at our 149th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show , we also celebrate the life and legacy of Kaz Hosaka . His contributions to the sport , his mentorship , and the unforgettable memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him .
Sleep peacefully , Kaz . Your legacy will forever inspire the world of dog shows .
