Dear Friends ,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone to New York City for the 147th Annual Westminster Kennel Club ( WKC ) Dog Show .
Established in 1877 , WKC is one of the oldest organizations in the world dedicated to dogs . For the first time ever , its nationally televised show will be held at the United States Tennis Association Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens , our city ’ s most diverse borough . The three-day program kicks off with the fan-favorite Canine Celebration Day , when attendees have the chance to meet and learn about a variety of breeds , and which , this year , features a special dock diving event , in which dogs will run the length of a dock and leap as far out into the water as possible to catch their favorite toy . The excitement continues with the breed and group judging and a junior showmanship competition assessing the dog handling skills of children and teens , culminating with the much-anticipated Best in Show selection . As New Yorkers and visitors gather to experience canine excellence , I applaud everyone associated with WKC for their efforts to produce this terrific championship , as well as for supporting my Administration ’ s partner , Animal Care Centers of NYC , in its mission to find loving homes for local animals in need .
On behalf of all New Yorkers , including our four-legged friends , I offer my best wishes for a memorable show and an enjoyable stay for those visiting our great city .
