Since 2004 , “ The World ’ s Most Famous Building ” has paid tribute to “ America ’ s Dog Show ” with a stunning display of color splashed across New York City ’ s skyline . This year the Empire State Building will celebrate the 147th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Tuesday , May 9 , 2023 . New Yorkers will enjoy the club ’ s colors of purple and gold as they fill the night sky during the Junior Showmanship Finals , the second night of Group judging , and the awarding of Best in Show on Tuesday night . The lights are visible for miles , reaching over a quarter-mile skyward above Midtown Manhattan . This renowned landmark ’ s impressive exterior LED lighting system honors national holidays and special events of interest to New Yorkers and citizens of the world .
