He felt his eyes close completely and his body relax, all tension fading away. In an instant, though, his body began to jerk around. Gasping for breath, he threw his body forward and wrenched open his eyes. With a deep intake of air, he looked around and saw not the darkness that had previously consumed him but the familiar surroundings of his room. His covers laid askew around him as his heart beat rapidly, almost as though it was trying to break out from the cage of his chest.
