A freak accident involving two commuter vans
travelling in opposite directions leaves six dead
and 11 others injured after one of the two vehicles
lost control of its wheels and collides against the
other which had fortunately stopped running moments earlier.
6 dead, 11 injured

passengers died on
the spot while two
were declared dead
on arrival by physicians at the hospital
after two passenger
vans collided at Sitio Mahanglad, Brgy.
A. Tumamak, Villaba
Leyte Thursday afternoon last week,
December 14, 2016.
The vehicles involved
were both Toyota Hi Ace
commuter vans. The vehicle
Gee Rhaim Tours with plate
#083604 on the PalomponOrmoc route was driven by
Themestocles Hortellano Jr.
The other van, E.R. JR. with
plate #080104 was from Tacloban going to Palompon,
driven by Alfredo B. Salvador. Empraim Requetillo Sr.
owned one van, while the
other was owned by his son
Ephraim Requetillo Jr., both
residents of Palompon, Leyte
All three passengers and
the driver of Gee Rhaim suf-
identified passenger.
Other passengers from
ER Jr. who suffered injuries
were: 1. Alma de Veyra y Pajaron, 46, single, OFW, Brgy.
Guiwan; Palompon, Leyte;
2. Joel Marilao y Calles,
35, married, Brgy. Sabang,
Palompon, Leyte; 3. 3. Gera-
fered only minor injuries,
while the nine other injured
and the five fatalities were
passengers of the van operated by the son. In an Interview with The Weekly
Vanguard, Hortillano said
that he saw the junior’s van
zigzagging down the hill. So
he stopped but the front part
was hit with the rear right
side portion of the incoming
van.
The police investigators
initially theorized that the
E.R. Jr. went out of control
due to slippery road. However, Villaba PNP is still trying
to get the statement of the
driver Salvador who is still
at the hospital recuperating
from his injury.
