2 DEVELOPMENT CHRISTCHURCH LIMITED (DCL) Intro Since opening in late December, we’ve been thrilled at the community’s response to the new Beachside Playground! We have prepared answers to some frequently asked questions about our work. It’s great that the playground is open, when will work start on the hot pools? We are now at a key point in the process to get the ball rolling on constructing the hot pools. The DCL team are working on preparations for the consenting process – the length of which will determine the timeframes for construction. We will keep the community updated throughout this process. Is the playground finished yet? What’s left to go in? DCL worked hard to get the playground open for Christmas, but there is still more work to do. We are developing what these works will be but they will include wind protection, seating and additional toys. How does the playground fit in with the hot pools? The Christchurch Hot Pools will be constructed to the north of the new playground, starting roughly where the old whale pool playground is situated, and extending into the existing car-park. Current designs envisage clear connectivity between the playground and the hot pools, with clear access to the entrance of the pools from the playground. Why does the whale pool drain at night, when does it refill? When does the splash pad stop working? During the design process, the designers determined that draining and storing the heated water from the whale pool and splash pad would be beneficial. Each night, the water is drained and stored in large tanks underneath the playground. This allows the water to be reused and to retain much of its heat.
