Greetings New Brighton
October is all set to be another event-filled Spring
month.
We are all really excited about the transitional river
trail, Te Awa Ōtākaro, which is currently under
construction as part of stop bank upgrade works by
Geotech Ltd. The trail represents a significant first
step in the regeneration of the east and is scheduled
for completion next year. To celebrate its partial completion and as part of the Breeze
Walking Festival and Biketober, a special community event will be held at Kerrs Reach
on Sunday 15 October. Meet in the Middle (see page 3) will have a range of stalls and
food vendors and has New Zealand artists Adam McGrath and Hollie Smith performing
on stage. Join the walk from New Brighton or meet up there!
Te Awa Ōtākaro is sponsored by CCC, MSD and City Care and has been initiated by
the Avon Ōtākaro Network in collaboration with Regenerate Christchurch.
Other dates of interest for your calendar that are coming up soon include the annual
New Brighton Museum Garage Sale (page 16), a Blues Ukulele Workshop and Concert
(page 18) a public forum on Pathways to Swimmable Rivers (page 7) and next month,
the always awesome Rockabilly Show and Shine (page 25) which is followed by the
Rockabilly Hop (page 4) in the evening.
Let’s hope that we have some fantastic weather over the next few weeks to get out into
the environment and enjoy some quality eastside community events.
All the best, Sarah
