2 Regeneration Hub Update May has seen Development Christchurch’s Creating Momentum fund approve funding for two great new initiatives for New Brighton. John Collins of BearLion Foods along with other tenants of Carnaby Lane have partnered with the landowner to revitalise the lane. New planter boxes, seating, and artistic murals are planned, with funding from DCL. DCL has also granted funding to Imagination Station, who are setting up a 10 week pop-up in New Brighton. Imagination Station is a purpose-driven social enterprise, and is Christchurch’s most popular creative play and education centre for people of all ages – they use LEGO and DUPLO as an engaging medium for learning, play and creativity. What’s more, Imagination Station’s creative play is accessible to everyone – with an ‘entry by Koha’ model. Design work on the new Beachside Playground is progressing well, and DCL is on track for a summer opening. Concept designs will be released soon and there will be opportunity for the community to provide feedback. Staff from DCL are at the Regeneration Hub on Carnaby Lane each Tuesday from 10 – 4pm to answer questions and discuss all things New Brighton. They are also contactable at [email protected] or on Facebook. Development Christchurch Limited (DCL) is Christchurch City Council’s urban development agency, and is leading the New Brighton Development Project. This project encompasses upgrading the whale pool playground, developing the Hot Salt Water Pools (pending Annual Plan funding approval), and revitalising the commercial core.
