The South Brighton Surf Life Saving Club was formed on the 19th of March 1929 with the objective of patrolling the South Brighton beach to ensure the safety of swimmers. Eighty years on we have grown into one of Canterburys most successful sporting organisations. Boasting an exceptional patrolling and competition record, the club has won over 300 National titles since its inception and has won the award for the top club in NZ numerous times. Our active members still maintain voluntary patrols at the South Brighton beach during the summer season with the safety of swimmers our number one priority. We have over 200 active and social members ranging in age from five years right through to those in their eighties.
South Brighton ' s Junior Surf Programme is an integral part of surf club activity and the future face and training ground for lifeguards. Children aged between 5-13 participate in organised activities that ensures they are surf and safety educated and confident enough to undertake training for their Surf Lifeguard Award at 14.
Due to an increase in the number of junior members, we now have a shortage of boards for training and competition. On the 8th April 2017 we will be holding an Art Auction to raise money for the purchase of new boards.
The focal point of the clubs activities are the club rooms on the main beach at South Brighton. We are at present in the process of rebuilding these and are also raising funds for the much needed club room rebuild.
We would be very grateful if you could help in any way. We are looking for donations of artwork to auction, bottles for a‘ bottle auction’ or items we could use in a raffle.
Thank you for considering our request. We look forward to hearing from you.
