“Marines aren’t so much made as they are born. Those yellow footprints aren’t there for decoration. They are a testament to the scores of individuals who have committed to a balance of three things to earn the title ‘Marine’; honor, courage, and commitment. Many men have tried, and yes, some have even died trying to claim the title of Marine.” “With honor comes a sense of duty. Then determination. There has to be a feeling of resolve, compulsion, and obligation to make a Marine desire to not just ‘be’ a Marine, but to be an exemplary Marine. A Marine must have the courage to fulfill his duty as charged and be committed to see things through.” “Marines often find themselves at the receiving end of criticism and condemnation from the public at large. We do what we are told to do, being duty-bound to obey direct orders. That’s not to say Marines never question those orders. It is a Marine’s duty to question the validity of every order handed to him.
