My 13th Summer
by Moses Mellish - 7th grade
by Micah Hawxhurst - 5th grade Grade 8
It's unbearable heat piercing my skin
As If a thousand fire ants have bitten me all at once
My dry lips wanting just a drop of water
but I can't stop listening to The birds chirping overhead
Like a chorus singing all at once
Enchanting me just to watch them play in the sky
calling for their friends to join them
Till it goes to a halt when they hear my brother shouting
Scrambling to their homes To hide
I scream with fury at my brother to stop all of that shouting
He stops to leave the woods in peace
My 13th summer comes to an end with the first leaf falling from a tree

Loneliness
by Joe Goldstein - 8th grade
Being tossed in the breeze
With no home
No place to go
A shadow of what you once were
Deprived of emotions
Feeling so lost
Memories of friends and good times start to fade
Until they disappear
And you forget your place
Driving you mad
Holding back what's inside
When really the sadness is overwhelming
Even surrounded by family
You're still alone
Like a disease
It can infect us all
And push some to the edge
You can take the leap off
Or fight back
Because you are not alone
You could blow in the wind
Or stand your ground
And stay awhile
Because who knows
Maybe it was your last day
To be...Alone
Alone.
Her New Hampshire sweatshirt and two shirts
A week’s worth of food
Her favorite book The Life of Pi and a toothbrush
With her gel toothpaste, a pocket knife that she used
Once on herself, 24 hours in a psyche ward and some memories, a fresh bottle of water, a box of batteries, one flashlight
The pearl necklace, an acorn with my name in it, her sisters sister
Her parents love, and their help.
What she left behind
Her dog's, whimpering at no food in their bowl
Her rock collection, silence, the house
So quiet without her there.

Savior
by Jade Gagne - 8th grade
by Micah Hawxhurst - 5th grade Grade 8
I don’t want you to save me
I want you to stand by my side
While I save myself
I want you to fight for me
I’ll fight for you, but better
I will respect that you stay by me forever
I want to include you and call you my savior
Roller Girl is a really good book. It’s about a girl that went to a roller derby and wanted to attend a derby camp with her best friend. Unfortunately, her friend was already going to a ballet camp. Will she be able to get through roller skating camp without her best friend?
