The Toll

by Stephanie Uzarek - 7th grade

As I sit in class

my headphones in my ears

the time passes by.

That small moment my

music stops, I can understand

the chaos that surrounds

me is inevitable.

Teachers yelling.

Students swearing.

Just as I’ve had enough

my music comes back

on and I sigh.

I like listening to

music because

my favorite songs

help me understand

my feelings through

the lyrics.

60% of all musicians suffer this

unbearable pain.

I thought sadness

only lasted so long?

Apparently not.

I have felt this way

for over a year now.

The only people who

really help me are

musicians.

This cage is why I'm lonely

The reason I'm misunderstood

This cage is for me and me only

For the me that never could

This cage is made of tears

The tears made of my dread

This cage contains my fears

And the tears I wish to shed

These are the tears of Joy

But this cage made me its toy

only out of something I said

My Shadow and Heart

by Mikka Scholtz - 5th grade

By: Mikka

There is a person who is close to my heart

Who’s there when I need her

Who helps me make the mark

She’s there when I fall or hurt myself

She helps me get up so I don’t have to crawl

When I leave my homework at home on accident

She reassures me a calm knowing way

that no matter what it will be ok

So now I don’t worry

No matter the thought

Because I know I’m safe

Because of my shadow and heart

Because of my shadow and heart

I can be like Superman

I can be like Hercules

I can be whatever I want to be

I am an Imaginer

Like a dreamer if you will

Except the difference between

me and a dreamer is that I dream better

I can be Halios

and carry the sun across the sky

I can be the miller's daughter

and spin straw into gold

I can be whatever I want to be

For I am an Imaginer.
