Americana farmhouse feel, keep an eye out for braided rugs, time-worn wood, pottery, and early or mid-century antiques for sweet, nostalgic touches. For a more romantic style, add a few pieces of velvet, embroidery, or lace. Furry or silken throws and other soft textures will invite your guest to slow down and appreciate the romance and beauty all around them. Take the opportunity to “go green” at your property, and try to shop exclusively at thrift stores, antique stores, local yard sales, and Facebook Marketplace to find those perfect pieces with a low environmental impact.

Last, but not least, bring some actual fresh air into your guest rooms with a few potted plants! The botanical style of mix-and-matching larger ferns, English ivy, and small succulents, for

example, is all the rage in interior design right now. Millennials can’t resist a simple macrame hanger holding a bright and healthy plant, and you’ll love the freshness that it brings to the space.

What Else?

If you’re feeling motivated to keep the design ball rolling, consider any other updates you’ve been putting off. Perhaps you’ve been planning to freshen up the wall and trim paints, or been wondering how that desk would look on the other side of the room. Choose a color that will work well with your beddings and the theme of your property, while keeping each room uniquely inviting. Consider

even adding a single wall of wallpaper, perhaps a romantic, classic floral or a faux wood pattern. This is a great way to trick the eye and create the illusion of depth and a point of interest.

While furniture is already being moved around, why not move a few pieces to

a new places? Consider tilting the bed, somewhat angled from a corner, to make a room appear slightly bigger and eye-catching. Play around with the light while moving a bedside table or floor lamp, and find which angles cast a warmer or more interesting light on the room.

With these small updates that you can achieve in less than a week, you’ll love knowing your property’s guest rooms are as fresh and inviting as possible. Don’t forget to get a few quality photos of your newly-updated rooms to share on your website and social media!
