The Voice of Innkeeping Vol. 2 Issue 1 Spring 2017 | Page 4

lease enjoy the latest edition of The Voice of Innkeeping. This issue highlights the great

work that AIHP is doing to represent and create a vibrant innkeeping industry. We have much to be thankful for. Enjoy our recap of the 2017 InnSpire Summit and Marketplace. We can’t thank our sponsors, volunteers, room hosts and staff enough for their support and commitment to putting together a fantastic industry event.

Take a moment to read our recap of AIHP’s 2016 initiatives. We have truly come a long way in the last year and I have tremendous excitement for what 2017 will bring. Foremost in my mind is how AIHP can best represent and promote our industry and provide an “excellent” experience for our membership?

A few weeks ago, my wife and I, along with some family and a few close friends had an opportunity to escape for a celebratory vacation. It was nice to have some time to reflect (sitting on the beach always helps) on what was accomplished during the InnSpire Summit and what lies ahead for us in 2017.

After 22 plus years in the hospitality business in various positions, I am always interested in learning how travel and tourism entities treat their guests/customers. What is it that they do to stand out, to be different? What makes their guests feel special? We want to provide that “excellent” experience to you as a member, that is our goal every day. I walked away from our time at that property with a renewed commitment to be focused on providing that member experience. I came away with lots of great ideas that we can implement in our association, so stay tuned for more on that.

In the spirit of providing great customer service, I wanted to share a video that I saw recently that really hit home with me. I ran across a great Ted Talk that I thought you might find of value. It was given by Adam Grant who is an organizational psychcologist. Adam has spent years studying the dynamics of success and productivity in the workplace. Adam’s talk is entitled, Are you a Giver or a Taker? I hope you find it as eye opening and motivating as I did. We are so blessed to have so many “Givers” in AIHP.

A big thank you to everyone for your continued support of AIHP. I am looking forward to a fantastic 2017.

Have a great start to the year…

Best,

Rob
