AIHP will be partnering with Select Registry and the California Association of Boutique and Breakfast Inns (CABBI) to host the 2017 InnSpire Conference and Knowledge Sharing Summit & Marketplace in Long Beach, California on the historic Queen Mary, January 29th – February 1st. Don’t’ miss the boat…

We know that we live in an ever changing environment. One notable change in our industry is the growth of online hosting platforms -- most notably Airbnb, VRBO/HomeAway and others.

In just a few short years, these companies have emerged as an influential part of the short-term lodging industry. This development has caused some to see the growth of online hosting platforms as a serious threat to the small independent lodging market, especially B&Bs.

AIHP believes as a leading small lodging association, it must have a comprehensive and well thought out strategy for protecting its members and the B&B industry as a whole. Such a strategy will recognize these companies are here to stay, and that we should engage with them. In our view, a strategy that does not include this recognition and engagement will not be in the best interests of our members or the industry.

AIHP has recently released a comprehensive policy position for its members and the industry at large. The position paper shared with you in this edition of The Voice of Innkeeping is just one part of a broader strategic and tactical approach. As market conditions continue to evolve relative to short-term rental platforms, the AIHP board and staff will continue to work with all stakeholders to meet issues head-on, adopt policy positions consistent with its mission, and advocate tirelessly for its members.

Please be engaged. If you are not yet an AIHP member, we would love to have you as a part of the AIHP family. We need to speak as one voice – it is the only way we will be truly heard. Contact Mary Hughes our Membership Manager ([email protected]) to talk about how you can get involved.

All my best - Rob
