I recently read a really great book on association management called the 7 Measures of Success – What Remarkable Associations Do that Others Don’t, written by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). As AIHP embarks on its first full year of operations, it is top of mind for all of us that AIHP elevate itself as the Voice of Innkeeping. This year marks my twentieth anniversary in association work and I know that associations are the glue that holds their respective industries together. We cannot settle for just being good, we have to work towards greatness.
It is my belief that the “seven measures of success” that are discussed in the book can be applied not only to association management, but these measures are also relevant to the guest experience, to the staff you may manage at your inn and to our allied partners that supply and
provide the services and products that are needed to be a successful innkeeper. These concepts will guide AIHP as we lay a solid foundation for the organization and will continue to guide our decision making into the future. We must adhere to these core principles if we are going to be relevant and successful industry.
The seven measures laid out in the book are as follows:
•

Over the coming months AIHP will be finalizing its strategic plan and these measures will help serve as a guide for this process. We are committed to being member driven and I look forward to working with you throughout 2016 as we take this journey together. If you are not already involved in AIHP please consider becoming a member and getting involved. We can only change “our corner” of the world if we do it together. My door is always open to talk innkeeping.
