Ingredients

1 cup butter or margarine

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla

2 1/2 cups sifted flour

1 1/3 cups finely chopped walnuts

1/4 cup maple syrup

Red and Green candied cherries

Directions

Beat butter with sugar until fluffy-light in a large bowl. Beat in egg and vanilla. Stir in flour, a third at a time, blending well to make a soft dough .Measure out 1/3 cup of the dough and mix with walnuts and maple syrup in a small bowl; reserve for centers in next step.

Put dough in a cookie press fitted with a small star tip or wreath shaped pattern. Press out wreaths on greaseless large cookie sheets; fill center of each cookie with nut mixture; decorate wreaths with slivers of red and green candied cherries.

Bake in a moderate oven at 350 degrees for 12 minutes, or until lightly golden at edges. Remove carefully from cookie sheets to wire racks, cool completely.
