friendship shouldn’ t have quarrels and arguments. But let’ s be honest, most friendships hit a rough patch every once in a while. This is where texting comes into the picture, and also where texting can ruin your friendship.
Maybe none of you have noticed, that it is very easy to text something …. that you would NEV- ER say. Have you noticed that when texting, we become a lot more bold? Have you noticed that? I have, and I have to be so careful. Sometimes it’ s easy to text a hurtful comment, because you don’ t have to see their reaction. You don’ t have to look into their eyes, and see how you are hurting them.
Of course, I realize that we can receive a cruel text, but we have to remember, they texted those hurtful words out of either anger, or hurt feelings. If you can’ t come up with a kind reply, it’ s best not to reply at all. I know, it’ s so easy to type out a few mean words and hit send, but in the long run, is it actually helping the situation? Wouldn’ t it be better to wait to reply until you’ ve had a chance to cool off?
Alright, let’ s look at another angle. Here’ s a question for you: When you are spending one on one time with your best friend, and she is texting someone else the whole time, how does that make you feel? Do you feel second-best? Do you feel a little bit un-important? Hmmm …. makes you think, doesn’ t it? How many times have YOU been texting while you are supposedly spending time with the friend that you call your Best Friend? I know we have all done this at least once. I know I struggle with this, and I need to work on it! Just remember, next time you are with your best friend, respect her by leaving the phone in your pocket. She’ ll appreciate it, guaranteed!
As wonderful as texting is, and as much as it has helped my friendships, there is nothing wrong with a sweet, hand written, note to your best friend, telling her you appreciate her. Personally I like sending cards, and I also enjoy receiving cards, as do all of you! I wonder if your best friend would like to get a card in the mail from you ………
