It’s not too early to be thinking about Christmas . . . especially poinsettias, and we would
like to put one in every household in Charbonneau through our
poinsettia sale! These plants are
grown locally, in Hubbard, by
Al’s Nursery. We will have two
sizes - 6” for $15 and 8” for $25
- and four selections of colors:
red, pink, white and red sprinkled
with white and pink. Get your order and check in to Diane McMichael as soon as possible, because
we have to have our final order in
by October 15. Call Diane at 503694-2127 for more information.
All proceeds go to support the
many programs at Boys & Girls
Aid.
We have two date changes for
you to mark on your calendars.
The Holiday brunch at Springridge will be on Thursday, December 5, at 10:30 am, rather than
the usual Friday. We were hoping to schedule our annual Crab
& rib dinner in February next
year but, due to the renovations
being made to the club house, we
have to move it back to March 8.
Kathy Gibbons and Jan Bliss
are co-chairs for the event and
will have more information about
that next month.
Our person of interest this
month is Maddy Abulencia, the
Field technicians evaluated the soil's physical properties at NWREC
last month to determine installation design details.

& Girls Aid and holds responsibilities such as overseeing the
Investor Thank You Program, the
online giving program and sponsorships and live auctions at our
major events. Maddy also works
with and stewards many of our
adoptive families as well as auxiliary members.
Maddy enjoys yoga, running,
dragon boating and Portland’s microbreweries. She has been with
Boys & Girls Aid since 2009.
Solar Panel Installation Set to
Begin at the NWREC in October
The installation of solar panels
at the North Willamette research
and extension Center (NWreC)
is scheduled for October. Be
watching for a flurry of activity
along the Miley road portion of
the 160-acre research farm - just
west of the main entrance gate.
The NWreC solar project is part
of a larger Oregon State university effort to implement alternative
energy development at locations
around the state.
Mike Bondi, director at
NWreC, said, “We were invited
to participate in this program and
will be one of two off-campus solar facilities for OSu in Oregon.
Three solar projects have been
installed in Corvallis to help generate electrical power for Oregon
State university.”
The NWreC project will be a
200-kilowatt system and include
about an acre of solar panels.
Once operational, the panels at
NWreC are expected to produce
about 80% of the research center’s annual electrical needs.
The NWreC solar panels will
be a ground-mounted system
and located just inside the Center’s fence line, south of the Miley road property line. A row of
shrubbery will be planted along
Miley road to provide a visual
screen.
“Our hope is to have the construction completed by the end of
October or early November. Of
course, we won’t be generating a
lot of energy until next spring, but
we should be producing lots of
energy by then,” said Bondi.
